Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Sausage and veggies X two for breakfast and tea.
A culinary tip for those of you who don't like sprouts because of unfortunate experiences in childhood. The new season's sprouts are just coming in and are superb. They are nothing like the sprouts of 50 years ago. The plant breeders have been at work and if cooked properly the sprouts are like small sweet cabbages. By 'properly' I mean as little as possible, just dropped into boiling salted water for a minute or two will do. And don't cut crosses in the stalk, just cut the dry cut stem off them. Well worth trying, you could be missing out.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Have you tried steamed sprouts? Delicious! ( I do cut crosses on the bottom and put them in the steamer with the bottoms down when steaming). Sprouts aren’t very nice here at this time of year of course. They are way too big and are £7 a kilo.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
I almost always steam sprouts but occasionally do them the old-fashioned way. Not everyone has a steamer.
The best sprouts of the lot are dropped into the salted water with the frost still on them from the garden. That's how my old gaffer Lionel Gleed used to cook them when I was farming in Warwickshire.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
I think I could eat sprouts any way you want to cook them. I love Cabbage and almost any veg. But I think steaming is my favourite method, with all veg. ( I even steam frozen baby peas and pumpkin...added to other steamed veg just 10 mins before serving).

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Sausage and veggies twice for breakfast and tea. I cooked a new starter batch of veggies and will be veggie shopping later today.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Thai inspired Veg Soup with Prawns...bloody marvellous if I may brag! Contained Ginger, Chilli and Curry Powder. Simply wonderful, though you can’t see the Prawns as they settled to the bottom before I could take the pic...

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Well, neither of us could eat it all...and Christmas is no different. Our kids could eat that as an entree....but we don’t have big appetites. I hope to see other folks Christmas dinners...

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Enjoy the rest of them!
Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
After a bit of a rest we moved onto mains, a keema balti, chicken tikka and some mixed veggies.
No room for any tea so just a whisky and sugar free lemonade, as it's Christmas.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
I had two Xmas dinners again for breakfast and tea. I have cooked a ham shank, defatted, skinned and boned it and the meat is back in the gravy with the onions and frozen mixed veggies. That'll go nicely with the cooked veggies in the fridge.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Cooler weather tonight, so Spicy Beef Noodles, with lots of Chilli...and Chinese 5 spice.
I must add that today we had another long uphill walk, so we felt we earned extra calories!

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
The ham and veggies with extra veggies for breakfast and tea. Why is it that the best tasting ham always come from the hock?
