I remember that series but had no idea that Daniel Radclffe was the young David Copperfield. The novel was part of my English Literature O level back in '66 along with Twelfth Night and a volume of modern poetry.
There is a programme on PBS America at 9pm tonight about WW2 in the North African desert, I've set it to record as my dad was there. The photo in the Radio Times is of a ground gunner just like him.

I just cheered out loud when that obnoxious character Jimmy Carr got his £64,000 question wrong. Childish I know but. . .

I revisited Happy Valley but it might be a bit too depressing for me. I enjoyed it at the time.......

We watched this film last night.
It was only when I was reading the credits at the end that I realised the local connection...
I've got the book -from a remaindered sale a long time ago. As is often the case it remains unread beyond the first chapter.
I'm mildly surprised that there is no cast entry "Stanley Graham played by himself"

Arthur Morrison enjoying his leaving present, a box of pics of his retirement do. 1977.
I used to call on Kim, Arthur's wife, regularly and I remember her asking me if I'd read Blake's book and asked me what I thought about it. I said yes and it wasn't the Arthur I knew. She agreed and made it quite obvious she wasn't impressed. Good job she never saw the second book that Blake wrote based on her letters, I think she'd have wrung Blake's neck.....

Does Youtube qualify as TV. It does for me. I like to watch a bit of chess now and then.
Some say it's boring - but for an exciting, time limited 'bltz' version, google -' Fatality and Pinkamena' they're a lot of fun - direct from Moscow.
I like the presentaion looking down on the actual board rather than a computer generated view.
If that's a bit quick for you, then Magnus Carlsen defends his world title against Ian Nepomniachtchi starting this weekend from that hotbed of world chess - Dubai.

"Does Youtube qualify as TV."
As far as I am it certainly does David. I'm not into chess but can watch old men repairing stuff made of wood for hours......

Wendy, from Wikipedia, filmed in Technicolour..... White Christmas is a 1954 American musical film directed by Michael Curtiz and starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen. Filmed in Technicolor, it features the songs of Irving Berlin, including a new version of the title song, "White Christmas", introduced by Crosby in the 1942 film Holiday Inn.

It was in vibrant colour but the last time I watched it must have been on a black and white TV!

I hadn't thought of that Wendy. In the days when you could adjust the colour my mother used to watch films in black and white because she said the endings were better!

You can still adjust the colour if you feel the urge for nostalgia, just turn the saturation down to zero

Something to do with Jesse James, and it's in Technicolor.
Just a thought - apart from this site -I wouldn't have given it a second glance.

Caught up with Ed Balls on Who Do You Think You Are last night, a little bit different this one, but very interesting none the less. They certainly keep my attention.
