Our house backs onto open fields and we could hear mice in the walls.
I bought 4 humane traps and set then in various locations around the house.
Over a period of 2 weeks I caught 14 mice and released them down by the creek which runs along the bottom of our property.

Minnie was not amused...

Did you ring them so you could see if any returned Mick? I can just imagine them trotting back up the field.... :biggrin2:

That reminds me of people who do an experiment on slugs by capturing them in their garden, putting a white paint spot on them, throwing them over the fence then saying `Look, they're back in my garden, they must have a homing instinct'. If it were a cartoon you'd see the neighbour saying `Oh no, more slugs, and these ones are spotted' and then throwing them back where they came from! :laugh5:

Funnily enough, that's exactly what my wife said I should do :biggrin2:

That was in the days when the firm was run by Quakers. Today the ownership is hard-nosed commercial and I'm sure we all can still remember the broken promises after the take-over.
I met Paul Cadbury once, he was a very nice man and offered to fund something I was doing but for some reason I can't remember, I never took him up on the offer.

Mars ads from a WW2 Pelican paperback book. Note in the 2nd ad the comparison of calorie content - in those days companies boasted about their high-calorie food product! The second ad also amuses me because we cut up a Snickers bar and eat a piece when we feel the need for one!

I know people get fed up of pessimistic posts but it's not entirely certain we shall never see rationing again. Even if its by stealth, rationing by price. Could be a solution for the obesity problem..... :biggrin2:

For many years, when I was on local milk pick up, I wore Chilprufe vests and got them from a lady who had a shop on Majestic Parade. They were expensive but wonderfully warm. I wore them until they dropped to bits......

I reckon that would be Thackeray's Stanley, big polished wooden cupboards and drawers.

I think you're right Ian. She once sold me a pair of Chilprufe women's combination vest and John Ls very cheap because she said no woman would buy them in this day and age. I wore them for years and they were the warmest underclothes I ever had! That was in the days when I was out in all weathers. I think they qualify as Flatley Dryer country!

I don't know whether you have noticed but the Flatley Dryer has resurrected itself over the last couple of weeks. That indefatigable purveyor of miracle goods, JML Ltd is advertising two miracle clothes dryers, one a folding stand of heated strings and the other a folding fabric globe with a small heater and fan in it. They both advertise as being cheaper than tumble dryers and that'll be right!
I think probably the only reason the original Flatley Dryer isn't making a come back is that the 40watt incandescent bulb that was the heat source is no longer available.

Well spotted - I've seen the advert - they seem to go on for ever. . . but didn't make the connection. I amuse myself during a new one - by trying to guess the price, which is usually a lot more than I imagined. I believe Mr JML has made himself very rich as a consequence.

I just found this - John Mills I had no idea it was so enormous, and I assumed he would be a Tory. Far from it ! Looks like a PPE qualifes you for more than just being Prime Minister.

A lifelong Labour Party supporter and donor, John was a Labour Councillor in Camden almost continuously from 1971 to 2006.

Very light on personal details, and the above probably explains why no knighthood or Peerage.

I have a set of Damart thermals, great for fishing in winter, unless the sun comes out. :extrawink:

I too have the super heavy Damart thermals Ian. They are my last resort go to when we have really cold weather. I haven't worn them for a long time.... the Winters are warming.
I once came across a Damart body belt while shopping in their 'seconds' shop in Earby. It was dirt cheap so I bought it and gave it to Newton Pickles who, even when he was into his seventies, still went out for a ride on his Triumph Tiger Cub motor bike many afternoons. He swore by it and wore it until he died.

From another age - when you were old at forty, and all it took was couple of pills. . . .

PS - Seems a fairly sensible cocktail? and one of the 'all time great' slogans.
Phyllosan Tablets contain ferrous fumarate, which provides an easily absorbable source of iron, and the essential amounts of Vitamins Bi, B2 and C.

In those days, unless you were wealthy, you dressed in your working clothes during the week. There was no such thing as casual clothing for the working class. (And working dress was often demoted Sunday best.....)

Ha, clothes drying. When Sally's Uncle Joe was in the barn conversion up at Hawes it had underfloor heating. Joe used to dry his washing laid out flat on the wooden floor. :extrawink:

We have a maiden over the stairs, this time of year we use a dehumidifier to help with the drying.

I just put the clothes on the rack in the kitchen and hoist it up to the ceiling. Never needed to bother with a dehumidifier.....
