Barlick police

As I continue with my model railway reconstruction of Barlick, I have a question. Back in the late 50's, early 60's, did Barlick have any police cars? Dad was a Special Constable, but I remember very little of that part of his life. The only other policeman I remember meeting was Jim Loon.
Thanks, All

Steve

I wasnt around in Barnoldswick at the time , but try getting from Library ( or buy e-book from amazon. etc )

British Police Cars (Those Were The Days ...) [Kindle Edition]
Nick Walker (Author) , Published by Veloce.

A nostalgic and heavily illustrated look at the cars used by the British Police from the very earliest days until the end of the 1970s. Throughout this book it’s the cars which are the stars, from Edwardian Humber to comparatively modern Rovers and Granadas of the seventies.

Using pictures sourced from policemen and police forces all over the country, this book illustrates the way in which policing gradually became more and more motorised over the years, and illustrates the many and extremely varied vehicles - mainly British, but not always so - which were used from earliest days through to the Seventies.

Hope that helps as an aid for now.

Steve, yes they had cars but not to the same extent as today. Popular models were Ford Anglias and Morris Minors. Traffic police had graduated from the old Wolsleys to Ford Zephyrs and the old chrome plated bell on the front had given way to the first sirens. The police were also very quick to adopt the new Ford Transit.

For OO 1:76 Hornby produce under the Corgi Trackside Series
Ford Escort MK1 Dog Van, and Vauxhall Viva Panda Car. I dont recall the Viva being used by the police in London when I was young , Morris Minors yes. I suppose Barnoldswick was in the West Riding Area , did that force have specific buying policies? Details might be found in either County Record Offices or down in London PRO.

Steve, they were also big fans of a small water-cooled motor cycle. Was it the Lea-Francis?

Tiny bit late but just picked up another Corgi Vanguard 1:43 Lancashire Constabulary Ford Cortina MK111 ( so around 1974-76ish ), Lurid orange stripe on white, makes ashes to ashes series ones look tame. It will be on my sales stand in Keighley MRC open weekend for a reasonable £8 - unless I sell it elsewhere tonight.

Reading my 2011 catalog in the Days Gone Trackside 1:76 range Generic Blue White or White/Blue DG 208 003 Ford Anglia, DG 2010 003 Vauxhall Viva , DG 218 003 Escort MK1 ,then DG 217 001 Escort ( MK2 ? ) Van Dog Section, might look reasonable.
