PUZZLES - CRYPTIC CLUES AND ANSWERS
Re: PUZZLES - CRYPTIC CLUES AND ANSWERS
You are right Wendy Roy Orbison but I had to look it up. Put it down to old age or just trying to be too clever.

Re: PUZZLES - CRYPTIC CLUES AND ANSWERS
Last year left us with one song title in limbo.
2 And embellished with a curious tattoo. A little clue was the comment about nuns. The final result of 19 out of 20 was fantastic so why am I making a mountain out of this one. Because he's a YORKSHIRE MAN (sadly no longer with us). So do the right thing and keep his memory going.

Thank you China. I had to look it up so I've cheated! Starting the year as I intend to go on? Is that cheating or doing the right thing?

Re: PUZZLES - CRYPTIC CLUES AND ANSWERS
Your next musical quiz. Same rules as before 'No Prizes' Perhaps the early rises could use the spoiler marker (the triangle with the apostrophe inside it) , all adds to the fun.
The quiz is based on the first lines of songs, some old, some new, some easy, some perhaps impossible. Name the title of the song.
1) Johnny's in the basement Mixing up the medicine
2) We got married in a fever Hotter than a peppered sprout
3) The sons of the Prophet were brave men and bold And quite unaccustomed to fear.
4) I love you But I gotta stay true My morals got me on my knees
5) Let's go girls, come on I'm going out tonight, I'm feelin' alright Gonna let it all hang out
6) They used to tell me I was building a dream And so I followed the mob
7) Midnight, one more night without sleeping Watching till the morning comes creeping
8) I saw the light on the night that I passed by her window I saw the flickering shadow of love on her blind
9) The tax man's taken all my dough And left me in my stately home
10) Oh he treats me with respect He says he loves me all the time
11) The old home town looks the same As I step down from the train
12) Every mornin' at the mine you could see him arrive He stood six-foot-six and weighed two-forty-five
13) Up the West End, that's the best end, where the night clubs thrive Down into a dive you go
14) And now the end is near And so I face the final curtain
15) It won't be easy, you'll think it strange When I try to explain how I feel
16) Never know how much I love you Never know how much I care
17) Well, no one told me about her The way she lied
18) Well I don't know why I came here tonight, I got the feeling that something ain't right,
19) Well, it's one for the money Two for the show
20) Mama, just killed a man Put a gun against his head
21) Are you gonna take me home tonight? Ah, down beside that red firelight
22) I work all night, I work all day, To pay the bills I have to pay
23) You keep saying you got something for me Something you call love but confess
24) Some people say a man is made outta mud A poor man's made outta muscle and blood
25) A long long time ago I can still remember how That music used to make me smile
26) One, two, three o'clock, four o'clock, rock Five, six, seven o'clock, eight o'clock, rock

Re: PUZZLES - CRYPTIC CLUES AND ANSWERS
Fantastic start. all answers so far correct. Both PanBiker and Tripps correct on No2. and both got one each on what I would have thought would have lasted longer.
The outstanding ones are.
4) I love you But I gotta stay true My morals got me on my knees
5) Let's go girls, come on I'm going out tonight, I'm feelin' alright Gonna let it all hang out
6) They used to tell me I was building a dream And so I followed the mob

Re: PUZZLES - CRYPTIC CLUES AND ANSWERS
Definitely showing our age. No 13. I think Formby was the first in the mid 1930s then Clinton Ford brought out some slightly modified versions in the 1960s. you can still listen to them on You Tube.
Some clues. 4,5 & 7 are painfully newish.
No. 6 a real oldie generally Bing
No 21 Not heard on radio, 'for more than obvious reasons', Queen and others.

Re: PUZZLES - CRYPTIC CLUES AND ANSWERS
The passing of Kenny Rogers, "You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille". made me think about songs where a name crops up in the lyrics that isn't used in the title. For this quiz all songs with a name in the title are void.. The above example would not be allowed. If a song has multiple of different names it only counts as one song.
