Tenant of Far Field, Great Far Field, Mill Hill, High Ing and Great Ing. Estate was owned by Thomas Wedell. Farmhouse was ‘Hargreave’s Laithe. This is the farmstead on the RH side of the road (going towards Gisburn) north of Newhouse and before Yarlside.

Lived at Wilkinson’s Farm, Barley in 1971. (I think this is the same Bob Hargreaves who was Mitchell’s partner. He said his mother was a Robinson and his great-great-grandfather was William Crook who died aged 95 and is buried in Newchurch graveyard. Bob said his mother worked at Barley Village Mill (as distinct from Narrowgates) His uncle Bob was a handloom weaver in winter and an itinerant mower in summer. The barn at Wilkinson’s Farm was used as a chapel of ease by the RC priest from Townley who used to say mass for the Irish harvest workers.

Atkinson William
Lived in Kelbrook and up to 1910 kept the post office. His parents had it before him. He was also a tailor, grocer and animal feed supplier. Was one of the purchasers of Bridge Mill at Sough at the formation of the Kelbrook Mill Co in 1898.

Colne, architect. Buys Great Holme Mill, Shaw Street [Colne?] for £4350 on 5/11/1897. 18/9/1918, dies. Wife Jane and friend Robert Slater Windle of Barlick are executors. Was architect for many mills and shed companies, including Barnsey Shed Barlick.

Tailor 32 Church Street in 1887. Uncles were hand loom weavers on Crow Row with sisters helping. [were sisters the E&E milliners in 1902?]
Wrote a memoir ‘Old Barlick’ and presented a copy to Mr and Mrs Alban Atkinson in 1917. He was living at 36 Skipton Road Barlick at the time. [copy of Old Barlick in Barlick library]
