DREAMS

I have a dream to report so I thought I'd revive the old topic.
It's all down to one of my old Lancaster mentors, Dr Mary Rose and youngest daughter Janet. Mary had arranged for Janet and I to do a two-handed talk to a flower arranging group at a venue on the Pier-head at Liverpool. The room was 100 feet long, narrow and had a glass wall looking out over the car park and the river. The hairy backed dockers who were present were at the far end 100 feet away and just as we got under way a man pulled onto the car park with a wagon and started tuning the Gaviola organ inside it. I woke up just as I got to my feet and took charge, rearranging everything to get us nearer the flower arrangers and sending an invitation to the steam organ man to come in and listen to the talk. Every detail is crystal clear and once I woke I was wide awake. I lay there for about 30 minutes and then gave up and came down for a cup of tea.

I've said it before but dreams can be powerful things. I have a theory that they are the product of our brains clearing out unwanted memories. One thing is certain, they can be very powerful experiences.

I am up early because I had a dream. I was perhaps the worst airline pilot ever. Things started badly when the chief steward offered me amphetamines to keep awake and I had to have him arrested and removed from the plane. This made us two hours late and things went from bad to worse. Everything went wrong, the tap on the sink in the kitchen behind the cockpit couldn't be turned off and I had forgotten my tobacco. Five drunken police officers gave me a box of cigars and when we came to take-off time i realised I didn't know how to do it so I gave the job to my co-pilot who was not pleased because it was the first time he had done it. We eventually got off the ground at 20:00 but by 03:00 I was very bored so I landed the plane and told the passengers I was going home. At this point I woke up and realised that it was indeed 03:00 and I was wide awake.

It was obvious I wasn't going to go to sleep again so I got up. Strange things dreams aren't they. God knows where it came from but not much point lying there tossing and turning. Apart from that, all seems to be well. I have brewed up and declared it a new day!
