Tim Bobbins Grave
The grave of Tim Bobbin (alias John Collier) 1708-1786. Born at Urmston, Manchester, he became a well-known Lancashire caricaturist and satirical poet at Rochdale. He would sell his works in the local pubs and draw portraits of the folk who frequented these ale houses. John Collier composed many Lancashire dialect poems, too many to mention here. He was also a school teacher at Milnrow near Rochdale. His railed-off grave lies in St Chad's churchyard, Rochdale. Part of the epitaph, now rather worn, says: Tim Bobbin (John Collier) Here lies John and with him Mary, cheek-by-jowl and never vary; no wonder that they so agree' John wants no punch, and Moll no tea.
