Re: MEDICAL MATTERS

It has been upsetting that our GPs, the Pendle Medical Practice, haven't responded in any way to the reports being sent from Airedale. They haven't even put essential drugs prescribed by Airedale over 2 weeks ago onto his repeat prescription list. Yesterday his specialist nurse emailed the practice ...

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS

Cancer has caught up with Colin again and he now has secondary tumours in his liver and possibly his pancreas. The prognosis is not good but support from the UGI team at Airedale has been brilliant and he will soon be starting chemo in the hope that it will improve his quality of life and possibly g...

Re: Wildlife Corner

Marjoram grows well up here, even at 1000ft. I have one, planted in a concrete breeze block, that has survived for nearly 25 years. My bee paradise at the moment is a patch of sedum which has escaped from a stone trough onto gravel. It is a mass of pink, frothy flowers right now, covered in bees and...

Saying goodbye to Col's old tractor. That was a fun morning while the guys who came for it tried to winch it onto the trailer. They eventually managed with help from our neighbour and his Tele handler. They return for the second one tomorrow!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

Thanks everyone for your good wishes yesterday. We have coffee with an old friend to go this morning and a quick visit to a relative in Warrington and we can head home! It's a bit showery here after rain overnight, but the sun has shone for most of the time we have been here.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

We are in Chester, staying at the Boathouse Inn where Colin and I first met, celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. It's a very different place now to the Newcastle Breweries boozer where I worked behind the bar and Col was a customer. Tomorrow we are booked on a 2 hour river cruise on the Dee, t...

It's interesting that Hawshaw is mentioned as a hamlet in Kelbrook in the 1822 Thornton in Craven listing. The properties called Hawshaw are now within Lothersdale Parish (previously Carleton) and as far as I know have always been there.

Yes I did, Skipton to Carlise, on to Edinburgh then back out to West Calder. My return journey on Thursday takes me via Lancaster instead of Carlisle which will be a first for me.

Yes it did and I managed to get everything finished. It tried to rain occasionally but it didn't amount to much. I did get stuck in the polytunnel later on though when we had a torrential shower.
Just heading towards Settle.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

I'm off to stay with friends in Scotland for 3 days. Col will be dropping me off in Skipton to catch the 9.58 train to Carlisle, then on to Edinburgh where I catch another train to West Calder. My return trip goes through Lancaster rather than Carlisle, which will be a first for me!

There was a strange rumble coming from the Barnoldswick direction.
Reported flight times seem to differ, but the Red Arrows should be heading east to west over Barlick this morning. Watch the skies around 10.45 ish.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

I had a wakeful night so at about 3.15 I decided to get up and listen to the dawn chorus. I took a cup of coffee and my phone with the Merlin bird identification app out to a seat in my flower garden and sat down ro wait. It was pleasantly warm out there at that time! I could hear a distant tawny ow...
