Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
We are in Chester, staying at the Boathouse Inn where Colin and I first met, celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. It's a very different place now to the Newcastle Breweries boozer where I worked behind the bar and Col was a customer. Tomorrow we are booked on a 2 hour river cruise on the Dee, t...

I remember finding articles about it in the old newspapers and posting them on here...but not so much detail. Did Heather start doing some more research?

It's interesting that Hawshaw is mentioned as a hamlet in Kelbrook in the 1822 Thornton in Craven listing. The properties called Hawshaw are now within Lothersdale Parish (previously Carleton) and as far as I know have always been there.

Yes it did and I managed to get everything finished. It tried to rain occasionally but it didn't amount to much. I did get stuck in the polytunnel later on though when we had a torrential shower.
Just heading towards Settle.

I'm off to stay with friends in Scotland for 3 days. Col will be dropping me off in Skipton to catch the 9.58 train to Carlisle, then on to Edinburgh where I catch another train to West Calder. My return trip goes through Lancaster rather than Carlisle, which will be a first for me!

I'm hoping to get my grass cut today before I head off to Scotland for a short break with friends. Fingerscrossed I can dodge the showers.

There was a strange rumble coming from the Barnoldswick direction.
Reported flight times seem to differ, but the Red Arrows should be heading east to west over Barlick this morning. Watch the skies around 10.45 ish.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I had a wakeful night so at about 3.15 I decided to get up and listen to the dawn chorus. I took a cup of coffee and my phone with the Merlin bird identification app out to a seat in my flower garden and sat down ro wait. It was pleasantly warm out there at that time! I could hear a distant tawny ow...

Born in Barnoldswick though Stanley. I see he was living with Holdsworths in Knaresborough in 1939. Did he not marry Theresa?

Tomorrow I'll be watching out for a possible fly over by the Battle of Britain Flight Lancaster. Its due at Newby Hall near Ripon between 2 and 2.30, then Accrington between 2.30 and 3.00, so every chance it could come this way.

Re: Booth Bridge farm and mill, Thornton in Craven.
It's worth adding here that the mill which burnt down in 1812 and was offered for sale with a new 30ft wheel in 1814 was Earby Mill and not Booth Bridge. There were failed attempts to spin cotton at Earby and the mill disappeared from history before the 1820s. Remnants of the dam remain in the Earby...
