Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

She can stop a bus with one look Love it. . . the name of which escapes me. That was Scott and Bailey, filmed around Manchester. The Police Sation was a former Barclays Bank in Bury. The co star was Lesley Sharp who also featured in "Redeye" I can't help wondering what went on in ...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

I'll post this here for sake of continuity. It concerns the unbelievable goings on in Oldham politics, and as such is really off topic. I shan't pursue the matter, but Private Eye should be all over it. I have seen in the last 24 hours the shenanigans at the Council meeting to get the existing leade...

Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS

I think we've seen that picture before, and I suggested the car was an Austin Westminster. I still think so. I had one once, along time ago, in the days when my nickname was "The Baron". They are seen often as Police cars arriving in the nick of time in the old films on Talking Pic...

Re: General Election July 4th 2024

I just google searched "pendle election prediction" and the result was this. Pendle election prediction It's a lot more definite than I'd thought it would be. PS - Forgot the boundary changes. better to look at this Pendle and Clitheroe Not quite so conclusive but 86% plays 13 % is quite h...

Re: General Election July 4th 2024

I've read that Parliament will be dissolved on 30th May, but also that it will be prorogued tomorrow. Does anyone understand these matter? I don't. PS Much though I have been looking forward to the election - I've had enough of the campaigning nonsense now - I don't think I can put up with another s...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

I shall think of you safeguarding Oldham's democracy by witnessing the council meetings It's far better than 'drama' on TV. I ended up sending an email to one of the councillors who very kindly promptly replied. I was able to tell him more of the person he had eulogised at the meeting. His ...

Re: POLITICS CORNER

The decision "to go" on July 4th seems to have taken everyone (not least his own MP's ) by surprise. Me too. I listened to Sunak's interview with Nick Ferrari on LBC, and it is obvious that by naming that date, he can continue the Rwanda fantasy. He can say, as he has pledged, that...

G. I liked your word "sunning" - being the opposite of raining which you introduced us to a while ago; I've been looking for a chance to use it ever since. Sadly the opportunity has not arisen.

I can't get the image out of my head, that the man who says he is the one to lead the country for the next five years, has just delivered his speech in the pouring rain, and failed to organise an umbrella for himself. :laugh5:

Kev knew and Stanley didn't. Perhaps making it known on Facebook when your target is the over 75's isn't the cleverest strategy. There are of course other possible reasons for the lack of enthusiasm.

What do we want? . . . . When do we want it? . . . sky news are very confidently calling it for July 4th. Hooray. :good: 5.10 pm. PS They're late, but the lectern is out and there is no Prime Ministerial crest on it so seemingly that is absolute proof he is calling an election. Hooray again. PPS He'...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

Simply too much going on today. I've an auction to attend of the first property we ever owned. That will be a bit emotional. I'd love to buy it - it would be almost poetic in a circular sort of way - but the lease is now too short, and the "Modern method of auction" has no appeal. I've got...

RIP.

Compare and contrast to last week's Eurovision entries.

I see that I contributed last time. Here's where the hen pen was - in the back garden of the house where I was brought up. I can't show the slum terraced house they came from - there's a Morrisons supermarket there now.

so naturally it's on its way. I wondered yesterday why it had not arrived - so looked on Abebooks and found that I had added it to my basket but it was still there, and I had not actually paid for it. That was soon remedied - and imagine my surprise when it arrived today! Rossendale to Cambridgeshi...

I'll leave you to the delights of Mayor Making... The meeting is worthy of comment I'd say, though the average audience online was about six. with a peak of ten! The low turnout at the May 2nd 2024 election is also noteworthy.and the fact that there is now not a single Labour Party Councillor on Pe...
