Re: STEAM ENGINES AND WATERWHEELS
I have John Lowe's book 'Burnley. not to be confused with a similar title by Ken Spencer. An excellent book with lots of detail off small features that are generally glossed over in the more popular books.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
On my way to the dentist I saw this small black dog taking a man for a walk. It turned out it was Stanley. PB120009.JPG . I can say that looks very well and is in good spirits. Nothing wrong with his memory, he recognised me immediately. Also his eyesight and agility are first class. He spotted a 10...

Gordon Brown got the credit of saving the world from financial meltdown but this was soon forgotten and once the Tories got back in those terrible bankers to whom we had loaned £Billions gradually recovered there status and somehow by some magic alchemy their loans became our debt which we are still...

Remembering that Tripps is a chess addict this is a link to the first game of the World chess championships. ChessI like this particular site because it gives some reasoning behind the more complicated moves. Hope you enjoy it Tripps.

The next thing I heard was that J Corbyn has told Der Spiegel that we cannot stop Brexit. Right, so its all Corbyn's fault that we got into first place? Some time ago there was a discussion whether it was possible to reverse to Brexit wagon once we had signed up to leave. I can't remember if a defi...

Crikey how bad is ours then? 1.81 down and 0.33 up Gloria, which supplier are you with. We have always been with TalkTalk. and for about three years and got about 6.7Mb on down load which was good enough for normal viewing. Then out of the blue we got an email saying our speed was slow and had we c...

Re: BEWARE! THE BANKS ARE OUT TO GET YOU!
The Persimmon Bosses only took advantage of a very poor scheme concocted by George Osborn and the Tory government. Any scheme that distorts the market by giving discounts can almost be guaranteed not to be totally transferred to the purchaser but a large slice will go to the seller. This was seen in...

Two major atomic war incidents were averted by people at the coalface ignoring the 'automatic' response instructions. That's why the proposed stars war programme so dangerous. No time left for common sense and cooler minds to kick in. No time for tin hats lads. We are all doomed.

I think you are being a bit negative here Stanley. My understanding from the 'Leaked' draft documents is that everything has been settled and Downing Street are just waiting for the EU to agree to it. Chequers plan B. Just a formality really, no reason to tell anybody else about it.

This 'Mill' problem is becoming an obsession. Although the photo shows stone steps over the bridge I think the mill itself is brick build. This would fit the Manchester area rather than Pennine which are usually stone. I started looking at this site to see if I could match up any of the tower design...

I did manage to move the toes on my right foot under scrutiny, not much but it shows progress, first time in nearly a month. . I wish I had got the same level of physio as you are getting. Having renewed my driving licence for the umpteenth time and now getting every 3 years I came across my very first provisional motorcycle licence. 15/- (75p) still expensive even then. Being a learner it had to be below 250cc. which was OK by me. A BSA C12 at around 120mpg was economical enough but ...

Ian, you may remember in my recent broadband problems the engineer came and fitted a intermediate plate in the master box. At the same time he re-connected some of the wiring. This then left us with a two port master box. One port for the broadband and a separate one for the telephones. All the micr...

Tripps, SOHCAHTOA Sine = opposite / hypotenuse, etc: is a damn site easier to remember than some sanskrit type word. and as for BODMAS. never heard of it. Unravelling a bracketed equation is just common sense without all that mumbo jumbo.

My trouble is that I'm a bit greedy when it comes to reading books. At the moment I've three on the go all at once. I shall Bear Witness Victor Kemperer. The diaries of a Jewish professor who stayed in German 1936-45. Nearly finished the first volume. Lots of detailed day to day pressures they had t...

David Cameron's memoirs were mention in another post. I have on my bookshelves his memoirs from his time at No 10. So far they haven't become a priority in my life but I may get round to reading them round about the same time he publishes his personal one, sometime next year sounds about right.

Like myself Stanley is on the wrong side of the average age expectancy and although we potter along at our own speed there is always in the background the knowledge that we are on the wrong side of the dreaded statistics. Then something medical goes wrong and what h...

Ian it may take a while but you'll get there in the end. Strange thing are these nerve signals. With Mrs P the Guillain-Barré syndrome left her with leaky nerve sheaths. Ask most people what they think of the budget and invariably the reply will be "I can't be bothered". With this in mind a 'Splash' headline on something that will focus their attention will act as a convenient smokescreen from what is really important. McDonnell's refusal to condemn the ta...
