Last of the mutton and greens for dinner. I treated myself and had bacon, fried tomato and egg butties on two flat teacakes for tea because I fancied it.... Felt too full afterwards, I shan't be doing it again in a hurry!

I started a new mutton stew the day before yesterday with chops, a tin of tomatoes and a bag of broth bits. Here it is yesterday morning ready for de-boning the chops. I had been veggie shopping on Monday and cooked sprouts with a cauliflower steaming on top. Dinner was half a cauliflower with sprouts and some of the stew. The sprouts and the remainder of the cauliflower went into the stew and in the afternoon I fried lardons, slice a Savoy cabbage and Kale and finished up with cabbage and bacon. I had some of this plus mutton and veggie stew for tea and put the remainder of the cabbage and bacon in the stew bringing the level back up to the top so no cooking today! I reckon again that the stew is now 90% green veggies.... This regime is suiting me.....

If you mean the two teacakes Wendy you're right and I felt uncomfortable afterwards. I shan't be doing it again! Yesterday I had a bowl of muesli for dinner while a piece of rump steak marinaded all day. I braised it at teatime and fried Tomatoes to go with it plus a can of mushy peas. It was too much, very filling and I only ate half of it. But I went veggie shopping yesterday and will no doubt find it goes well with some leafy greens!

I cooked carrots, sprouts and cauli yesterday and had some with the remains of the rump steak from the night before. During the afternoon I cooked sausage in a sauce of chopped tomatoes, baked beans and the usual condiments. I had that with veggies for tea.

Last night it was sausages in onion gravy with cabbage and broccoli. Tonight I'm doing fish pie with a cauliflower mash and cheese topping.....wondering whether I should sprinkle some crushed scratchings on top for a bit of crunchiness :smile:

The fish pie was light and tasty. I used haddock, a small piece of salmon fillet and a few prawns all mixed up with a tub of creme fraiche and some grated cheddar then topped with cauliflower mash, more grated cheese and a sprinkle of crushed pork scratchings. it took about 40 minutes in the oven to cook through and brown nicely on top. Enough left to freeze for a couple more meals.

I'm feeding the freezer as well. My chilli turned out bang on, I used Aberdeen Angus lean beef and along with all the other usual ingredients treated it to two home grown and previously dried chillies. I should have three or four portions for the freezer.

I cooked Cabbage, Kale, onions and bacon so as I took two portions out of the sausage and veggies for dinner and tea I topped the slow cooker up. No cooking for two days!

We had roast chicken with roast potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, roast fennel, apple sauce & gravy.

Sausage and veggie stew for dinner (one bowl left in the fridge) and for tea, Smoked mackerel fillets, mushy peas and fried tomatoes.

Last of the sausage and veggies for dinner. Put the last of my mutton in the slow cooker and cooked veggies. For tea I had breaded cod with sprouts, carrots, cauliflower and some gravy off the mutton chops. Treated myself to Stilton on oat cakes for a filler and one apple.

Had pork steaks marinaded in soy sauce, lemon juice, ginger, pinch of cinnamon & one of nutmeg served with dauphinoise potatoes & sprouts.

I cooked carrots and steamed shredded Savoy cabbage. The carrots went in the stew to augment it for dinner and I fried lardons and onions and gently cooked them with the cabbage and the usual condiments to further add to the stew. So tea was the augmented stew followed by cheese and small oatcakes and an apple.
Wendy, I have a bit of a puzzle and wondered if you or Col could shed any light on it. I have mentioned before the benefits I am feeling from the low carb and greens diet. I am losing weight but very very slowly. This isn't bothering me as I am so well but what intrigues me is that if I take a measure like the fit of my clothes or how much fat I can pinch I am losing fat. My question is, do you think that this diet has an effect on the solidity of your muscles. In other words am I losing fat but getting better muscle tone? I am beginning to suspect that this is the case and wondered whether Col had noticed the same thing......

The same thing happened to me when I first started Stanley, a small amount of weight loss but a noticeable change in shape, in fact I rediscovered a waist I hadn't seen for 30 years! Either the small amount of weight loss is from exactly the right place....round your middle...or you are increasing muscle mass. Col didn't appear to have an ounce of fat on him when he started low carbing, so he isnt a good example, but he has definitely built more muscle over the last year. We both have more energy than before, and as I mentioned in another topic, my legs took me up the long steep hill on the back road out of Lothersdale without flagging at all so my muscles are getting all the energy they need from fat!

Thanks Wendy. That confirms my feelings. When Kev visited yesterday we had a pot of tea and compared notes and found that we both have experienced the same benefits but even more for Kev of course because he lost 3 stone. He looks very fit and a good shape but complains it has cost him a fortune in new clothes! We talked about Tom Kerridge who lost a fantastic amount of weight and I shall stretch a point and get his book..... Kev tasted my latest batch of cabbage and pronounced it good. We both think Savoy Cabbage is the best thing since sliced bread! (But of course that is a dirty word now as far as we are concerned!)
I had the green leaf stew twice for dinner and tea. There is one bowl left in the fridge for dinner today but I have a chicken to roast. Long time since I roasted a chicken and made stock! I shall cook it in Cider and have very expensive stuffing made with the gravy. I realise there will be carbs in that but not much as it's posh stuff. I do like good stuffing!

Slow roasted pork shoulder, savoy cabbage cooked with lardons, butter and a splash of double cream for tea last night, visitors from the south enjoyed it. I did allow myself a small slice of apple strudel with some whipped cream for pudding, which was nice :-)
