Engineer Gloria has it right this time. I'd never heard of bif and tub either. They are King Klik anchors which you install in the hole like a pop rivet. Hardly ever used but when the occasion arises they are a godsend.

Bif and tub rivets are short for bifurcated and tubular rivets. Very popular prior to pop rivets.

No Maz, it's a purely mechanical function. I thought the brain cells would snap into gear with this one!

It's an alignment tool for two pieces of metal with holes in. Commonly used in aircraft production.

For setting the gears on your first Babbage digital computer, or since we've had a few comments on them things with flying weights on steam engines it could to do with setting these gears.

No P, they were used in the pre-formed holes for the rivets in metal sections of an aircraft. If you didn't use them the plates tended to stretch under the pressure of the rivets and became misaligned. On a riveted boiler nuts and bolts were used for the same purpose, even inch thick steel will deform. A few would be put in at strategic points and the rivets clinched home between them.

This pic is so mysterious that this is a cry for help really. I don't know where I got this from but it's a nice pic of a Co-op somewhere. Has anyone got any ideas?

I thought that pic rang a bell - and I found this in a book I have of the Jubilee History of Failsworth Industrial Society published in 1909 to mark the 50th anniversary of its founding.

Hiding away from TV's 'Strictly' I scanned Google's Images for Old Co op buildings and straight away up popped an picture exactly like yours. Opened it up only to find it was posted from OG some years ago and asked "does anyone know where it is". Perhaps if you could give us a clue as to how you came by these pictures then we might be able to follow a trail backwards!

I think quite possibly, that every Coop shop must have once had a similar photo.
I pulled out all the stops to get that photo in. Photographed it with my Wileyfox smartphone - emailed it to myself - downloaded the attachment -then uploaded it to this thread. Quite an achievement for me.

Also checked out the name Pelaw - thinking it might be a clue since it is a town in Co Durham. However I'd forgotten it is also an own brand name for Coop products.

That took me to more information about Blanco than I ever thought existed, and 'triggered' some long ago memories. Not only did they make you use this ridiculous substance - you had to buy it yourself! Web cleaning with Blanco

Then finally I remembered there used to be a good flapping track in the town. What do you know it's still going, and looking good. Added to the bucket list as another excuse to go back to the North East Pelaw Grange
