1757 and 1760
John Sutcliffe paid land tax for Damhead of £1. In 1770 he paid land tax of 15/- but no address given.

1807.
James Sutcliffe, Farmer. Mentioned in an electoral roll for Barnoldswick dated 1807.

William Sutcliffe mentioned in an electoral roll of Barnoldswick, 1807.

1835
James Sutcliffe. Farmer at Damhead in electoral roll of 1835, ditto 1837 and 1841.

1837
John Sutcliffe mentioned as an elector of Salterforth in 1837. Address given as Wood End. 1841/1848/1859 ditto.

1851 census
Farmer at Wood End, Salterforth. John Sutcliffe, 64, farmer of 64 acres. Jane, wife, 64. Hartley, son 31. Also at Wood End: Joseph Sutcliffe, 40, HLW. Betty, wife, 40. John, 19. Robinson, 15. Mary, 111. Nancy, 6. Susan, 4. Joseph 3 months. All children born in Salterforth.

1851 census
Mere Clough. Joseph Sutcliffe, 59, farmer of 14 acres. Betty, wife, 56. Hannah, 17. Riley, 13. Hartley, grandson, 3. Also at Mere Clough and a slightly confusing entry: Hindle, 22, born Thornton. Ann, 23, born Thornton. Elizabeth, 1 year, born Thornton.

1851 census
Resident at New Hague. Hartley Sutcliffe, 31, Hand Loom Weaver. Jane, wife, 31, born in Thornton in Craven. Elizabeth, 111. John, 9. Mary Ann, 7. William 4 years. All children born in Foulridge.

1871 census
Christopher Sutcliffe, 53 is noted as residing at Clough House. Occupation Tailor.

1887
Barrett directory notes James Sutcliffe as tailor of Walmsgate. Barrett 1902 has same entry but 17 Wellington Street. 1896 Barrett gives 1 Westgate.

1900
A mechanic called Sutcliffe was tenant of the workshop at Wellhouse Mill at a rent of £25 par annum. He gave notice to quit in March 1900 and Henry Brown and Sons took over for the same rent.

In LTP. 79/AO/01. Page 11 Jack Platt talks about stealing pea pods from the garden of Jim Sutcliffe who was the landlord of a row of cottages on Tubber Hill where Jack lived.
