WILL OF ALVERY JACKSON. 14th September 1763

In the Name of God, Amen. I Alvery Jackson of Barnoldswick in the County of York, Baptist Minister being in daily view of approaching mortality but of sound disposing mind and memory praised be God for the same hereby revoking and making void all other wills by me heretofore made I do now make, ordain, publish and declare this my last will and testament as touching the settling and disposing of the wordly estate which it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me. AND FIRST, it is my will and mind that all my just debts, funeral expenses and Church duties and charges about the probate hereof be fully paid and discharged out of my effects by my Executors hereafter named within twelve months after my decease and then I give and bequeath to my two daughters Martha and Tamar(?) the sum of ten pounds apiece to be paid to them severally or to their legal representatives respectively by my Executors hereinafter named at the end of twelve months after my decease which with ten pounds apiece that I gave to them on their marriage will make them twenty pounds apiece answerable to which I give and bequeath to my youngest daughter Susanna the sum of twenty pounds to be paid to her or her legal representative when she shall attain the full age of twenty one years by my said Executors by whom the profits arising from the said twenty pounds after my decease ? it becomes due are to be yearly laid out for her use in her education and bringing up. AND further it is my will and mind and I do hereby order and direct that if thro’ long and repeated affliction or any other event that shall happen hereafter to befall me the stock outwhich those several legacies are appointed to be paid shall happen to be so lessened and diminished as not to be found sufficient at the time of my decease to answer all the aforementioned debts and bequests in full that my several legatees respectively abate and discount out of their several legacies in due proportions so much as occasion shall require. AND all the rest, residue and remainder of my Effects, goods, chattels, debts, credits and books of whatsoever kind or sort and wheresoever they shall happen to be lodged or found I give and bequeath to Mary my beloved wife for the uses and purposes and the instructions and directions which I have left in writing with her and my other Executors concerning them. AND LASTLY I do hereby nominate and appoint Mary my beloved wife and my two valuable friends John Parker and John King joint Executrix and Executors of this my last will and testament hoping they will be faithful in seeing it duly fulfilled as my trust is in them reposed. IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Fourteenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty three. Alvery (seal) Jackson. Sealed, signed, published and declared by the above named Alvery Jackson to be his last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of the Testator. MANOR OF BARNOLDSWICK. TO WIT. IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN. Proof of the will to these presents annexed being admitted in the Court Baron of William Bagshaw and Edward Parker Esquires for their manor aforesaid held in and for the manor aforesaid the Twelfth day of January one thousand seven hundred and sixty four. I do according to the custom of the said manor hitherto used approve of and register the same and I do pronounce, decree and declare for the validity thereof and do fully by these presents commit and grant administration of all and singular goods, rights, credits, cattells and chattels of the Testator Alvery Jackson late of the manor aforesaid deceased which were in his lifetime and at the time of his decease within the manor and jurisdiction aforesaid to Mary Jackson, John Parker and John King Executrix and Executors in the said will named having first before our Steward of the said Court taken the oath according to law in that case required saving any other person’s right. GIVEN at Barnoldswick aforesaid under the seal behalf used the Day and Year above written.
