Barrett directory notes Townson Demain as Boot and Shoe maker of Commercial Street, Barnoldswick. Same entry in 1896 Barrett.

Barrett directory notes William Demaine as bootmaker of Commercial Street.

LTP. 78/AB/03 page 1. Billy Brooks mentions a firebeater called Demaine at Clough Mill. [later became engineer?]
1929
Craven Herald 04/01/1929. Norman Wellock of 18 York Street Barnoldswick appeared in Skipton court as a witness against Frank Demaine, labourer, of ‘Artisan’s Lodging House’ who was accused of stealing 16 rabbbit skins and a hare skin from a hut in Barnoldswick owned by John Charles Hayes of Susan Street, Burnley, general dealer. Norman Wellock had been offered the skins and had bought them from an accomplice of Demaine. The case was proved and Demaine was gaoled for a month.
1929
Craven Herald, 05/07/1929. Tom and Daniel Demaine, two Barnoldswick weavers, were up in court for poaching on Sir Amos Nelson’s Gledstone Estate. They were first seen by Robert Hall of 25 Edmondson Street, Barnoldswick ( Later he was estate agent at Gledstone and lived in Top Lodge opposite Marton Scarr Farm. Noted breeder of Border Terriers) The gamekeeper Sidney T England gave evidence and the two men were fined £2 apiece with costs for shooting rabbits near Southfield Bridge. The estate agent in 1929 was W H Bond.
1929
Craven Herald 06/12/1929. Report that Tom Demaine, a weaver of Gill Fields Barnoldswick had sued a Nelson carrier for £35 after he was injured by the man’s horse. After the accident he had to have 14 teeth extracted at a cost of £6-4-0. He won his claim. His brother Dan Demaine was a pillion passenger on his machine.
1932
CH. 15/07/1932. Report on the flood of 12th of July in Barlick notes that water poured into the premises of Townson Demaine, greengrocer of Westgate ruining much stock.
1932
Craven Herald, 29/07/1932. report that Daniel Demaine, a weaver from Barnoldswick was charged with night poaching on the Gledstone estate at West Marton. He was found guilty and sentenced to three months in gaol with hard labour. Sidney T England, head gamekeeper for Sir Amos Nelson Ltd and his brother Edwin England were on duty near Pikeley Fields farm tenanted by John Lawson. Demaine said that as it was a holiday week there was no work in Barlick and he had nothing to draw and owed an order for 7 shillings a week against him by the court. They stoned the keepers while one of them, an old man, got away.
