Not sure about black pepper steak and ice cream but, sweet and sour pork with mashed potato sounds good to me.

Strawberries with black pepper is a favourite in my house, usually with a glass of Cava.

An interesting melange (Yes, I used to read the HP sauce label!). I had the last of the haggis and neaps, sorry to see the end of it. Butcher's day today so the world is my oyster!

A day of bits and pieces. Tea was two cold susages, half a currant loaf and a sinful luxury, chocolate and fruit while watching snooker!

changed last night's menu from stir fry to curry. Party food today as the receptionist at site is leaving so there's a buffet for her Eileen

Tidying up the fridge and the veggie bin led to a strange mixture, pease pudding, chips and a couple of eggs on top. OK, nourishing but a bit boring. Never mind, odds and sods out of the way. Essential at times to avoid waste.

I had a treat, a tomato and cheese butty made with Black Bomber Cheddar, very expensive but lovely cheese! I have some dry-cured bacon ribs, I can see me having a nibble for tea.

I cooked the thighs in a casserole sauce with mash & cauli. Tonight it is roast lamb (we haven't had it for a while because it is so expensive - fields overflowing with sheep and lamb is dear!), with roast & jersey potatoes, cabbage, parsnips and gravy.

Sausage casserole and Basmati Rice. Pleny left over for today, you can't beat bulking up with rice to stretch the budget!

Asparagus. Bang in season now. Wirral is known for its asparagus and for 6 weeks or so of the year we gorge ourselves and then that's it until next time round.

Wonderful what can be done with two pork chops, a tin of economy chopped tomatoes, Basmati rice and seasoning. Enough for tea tonight as well.

They were selling small packs of Jersey Royal potatoes in the Co-op yesterday and I grabbed one. Tea was simple, I boiled them, put plenty of butter on them plus Maldon Salt and black pepper and pigged out on them. Dead simple and lovely to let the taste of really good spuds come though. Took me back to the farms I used to visit in my cattle wagon days in Scotland. I often had skinny tatties at a farm near Srathaven, simply boiled Golden Wonder tatties with butter and a bowl of salt to dip them in. If you've never tried them like this, have a go, you could be in for a pleasant surprise.

Steak and kidney floured and fried with onion and then gently simmered until the gravy developed. Add new potatoes and peas and a very nice tea. You can't beat kidneys for good gravy! Plenty left for today....
