LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
Grrrrr...had to pop out and buy a Lettuce today...fight the crowds and pay twice the price for inferior product.
But "they" won't get me again this Christmas Season!!!!
I am done. I echo the sentiment, that what I don't have, I don't need.

Hard luck Maz. I confess I would have done the same. I honestly think I have everything....

It’s my phone or OG, couldn’t possibly be me.
(It wouldn’t let me delete it and start again)
It’s on the previous page now, but I hope everyone will get the idea.

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
A Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our friends in the One Guy community, from Tizer & Mrs Tiz.
To save anyone having to ask, the lump of silvery-grey rock at the back right-hand side of the photo came from Coverack, a small harbour on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall. Unlike much of the rock on the Lizard this isn't serpentine - it's rock that was on its way to becoming serpentine. The Lizard peninsula is unlike the rest of Cornwall, it was a piece of sea floor that was shoved on top of the land when tectonic plates collided about 300 million years ago (it's known as an ophiolite - that's one for the pub quiz!). The various strata from the sea floor are exposed on the peninsula as if the ophiolite curled up at the end. Coverack is famous because rock is exposed there which is derived from the Moho (Mohorovicic Discontinuity), the boundary between the Earth's crust and the mantle. That's where the piece of rock in the photo originally came from!

This is shocking, almost incredible and probably beyond comment.
No room at the inn.
I say this, since I drive past a block of brand new luxury flats most days, which have been on the market since April / May. and I have seen no lights on at all in the block. The whole block is empty. That can't be right.

I have never been this disorganised for Christmas. Never mind, Christmas cake is now in the oven. No brandy feed this year!

David, as you say, beyond comment.
I listened to Johnson's Xmas message and contrasted it with Corbyn's. What have we done? (Johnson off to rough it over Crimble in Mustique of course.
On a lighter note. Have a look at THIS, NORAD's Santa Tracker....

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
Maz, There's a special Christmas edition of `Three Vicars Talking' at 1.15pm GMT on BBC Radio 4 today but you'll be able to get it online here: LINK
`Three Vicars Talking is back for a Christmas Day special. Reverends Richard Coles, Kate Bottley and Giles Fraser swap shop talk about one of the busiest times of the clerical year. As well as getting ready for Christmas like the rest of us, they also have to prepare for Advent, attend numerous school nativity plays, and officiate at Midnight Mass in front of their biggest congregations of the year.'

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
I agree, I do what like do, not what I am expected to do, but the media hypes it up so much. They even make a big deal of cooking the meal, if you regularly cook a roast dinner its not so difficult. The trouble is so many people don’t cook properly these days. I have just had a fabulous one produced by daughter and son in law and pud made by Bob and granddaughter, and still plenty of time to chat, play a few games and chill out with a drink or two. Tomorrow morning Julia and Ed are doing a charity Boxing Day lake swim. I shall watch, take a few photos and make a donation and hold the towels
Feet up with a cuppa at the hotel now

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
I came down with Colin's nasty cold, and he is still suffering so not the best circumstances for Christmas Day. We didn't plan to eat till 5ish anyway so there was no pressure to get everything done. The turkey went in the oven at midday...nothing fancy just a bit of stuffing and a dot of butter on top, when that came out at 3.30 my stuffing balls, pigs in blankets and a mix of parsnips and carrots went in. Gravy made from giblet stock and juices from the roasting dish then plain steamed sprouts and peas.
All easy plain cooking, simple and delicious. Craig prepared our starter and Colin had made some low carb Xmas Pies which we had with thick double cream a while later! (Almond flour pastry tarts filled with a spicy mix of stewed plums and chopped nuts).
Scrabble challenge with Craig till it was time to give the ponies their supper then an early retreat to bed!

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
We had Cold Prawn/Salad Rolls! No cooking!
We did a quiz of 50 questions from the newspaper. I have to say they were a very odd bunch of questions! ( we normally do quite well but both got a miserable 20 out of 50. Well below our average I must add.)
So a quiet Christmas for us, but (for me) much more preferable to cooking for a crowd. My days of doing that are over. It is not due to inability, it is due to being sick of the task. Too many Christmas memories of being “ THE one” to produce a meal.
Hubby calls me “ The Christmas Grinchess”.
I say to him “ You cook Christmas Dinner for once,”!
