For Sue. This attachment was sent to me by a good friend in Barlick. There's no explanation with it other than it popped up in a search. I've no idea what its about, just one of life's little mysteries.

I put it in Gimp and breathed on it but I still can't make anything of it beyond the fact it is a record of some sort of transaction with Barlick Co-op and for some reason it was noted at Wakefield. (Possibly during Probate?)
I never got in the shed yesterday. I spent time sorting out a lot of old postcards for Tiz, parcelled them up and sent them off like a winged arrow to Taunton!
Should manage a bit of shed today!

"Popped up in a search"? Of what I wonder?
Likely to be a property transaction if it is registered at Wakefield, perhaps they were renting their house or shop from the Co-op.

Wonderful tit bit, thank you. Signed 1905 I think it says. So they must have been in the shop sometime. Yes it does sound like a Co-op franchise.. just love the signatures. Thomas put a cross on his marriage certificate.

We may go for a walk this morning.

Sewing lesson this afternoon, we shall be fitting the sleeves of the dreaded yellow top, as well as discussing the issues I had with the shirt collar for future reference, then looking at the sizing of the pattern of the summer maxi dress I want to make next. Its pilates this evening.

I shall be looking for an easier day. I was knackered after yesterday!
Mind you it was my own fault, I got a bit of shed in and am aiming for more today.

I improved the shining hour. Following my success with Jess's frying pan I got another kit and treated these two roasting tins with heavy duty oven cleaner. A definite improvement! (The back of the big stainless steel one is as clean as the front. You can now see the original enamelled finish on the small one, just out of interest, my dad, who was in the enamelled ware trade said that it was known in the trade as the 'bird lime finish'.)

Still more fitting on the yellow top yesterday. Its the fabric, every time a seam is pressed it stretches. Nearly there though. We did get out for a short walk in the morning, it was lovely, sunny, dry and no wind but the tracks across the fields and moorland around were very very muddy indeed.one route was blocked with about 100 metres of deep water! Luckily after treating my walking boots with a good dose of dubbin last week in all the cracks they did not leak.

This morning is art, then a couple of hours on the yellow top, this evening yoga.

That yellow top will never be worn with pride, my sweet. Don’t let worrying over it destroy your soul. Wrong fabric for the pattern. Start again...plenty of yellow fabric out there....

I will never make this pattern again, and nothing in yellow. Funny thing really every time I have made anything in yellow or indeed bought anything it has been unlucky! No I shall continue its just a bit of taking in on the side seam, trim down the armhole at the back and check the sleeve then fits which it should. Too much work gone in to it to give up now. It will get finished in between doing other things. I now have the pattern toile for my summer maxi dress to work on too, to Look forward to summer.

I did get the shirt collar resolved and I will solve the yellow top too. :laugh5:

Sue, Some mysteries are bigger than other mysteries, I think my friend thought I was conversant with the Widdop posts and would add the extra detail. The transaction is for a domestic property on Ribblesdale Terrace, Gisburn Rd, Barlick.
I only take pictures of lumps of stone, family history is beyond me.

Why no kids listed? 1911 census specifically asked kids born/kids living.
I get it. Kids were with first wife.
Strange no hangers on in 1911 though (from either side)

Perhaps he just missed the 1911 Barretts trade directory, the next one was 1914 and he isn't in that. I suppose it's possible that the business traded under another name.....the directories are listed alphabetically under surnames rather than trades.

Yes thats why. All really too old to be at home. In 1911, the men were married with families or emigrated. Daughters emigrated between 1901 and 1911 census, two sons died at a few week s old
John Roberts Widdup my g grandfather living in Bromley Kent married with family b 1870
Robert married in Barnoldswick b1879
Ernest married, in Australian navy. A gunner trainer b 1874 I think
Smith married In Barnoldswick b 1876?
Sarah Ann a nanny in Boston b October 1887
Elizabeth Mary a dressmaker in New York, never married died young b1872
Stanley and Harry, one died at 3 months the other at 3 days.

Sarah was the youngest left home aged 21 just after 1901 census.

Some dates off the top of my head without looking them up

Yes you could be right there. Ken says he sold the house in 1911, perhaps he sold it to buy the shop or invest in the shop.
