I was watching Youtube - which guided me into some Harry Enfield comedy sketches for a while - then I went back to TV and found myself at the BAFTA's

It took couple of minutes for me to work out that it was not a spoof. The presenter was one Richard Eeyaye-addio - a total stranger to the hair brush and razor blade - all the others were carefully chosen, and I'd never heard of almost all the candidates. Having no audience at all. and no sound other than from the luvvies didn't help my dilemma.

I have to start paying again for these delights tomorrow. That was enough to make me consider not doing so.

My daughter and her husband did without for a few years but in the end the lure of the big screen dragged them back into the system. I am lucky enough to qualify for the free licence for the time being..... I did watch the World Championship snooker last night.

We watched the last of Peter Kay’s car share, I know it’s been on before but we’ve got to an age now where we’d forgotten most of it.
Watched a bit of the BAFTAs, didn’t enjoy that at all, didn’t know most of them, and really struggle with all the overacting.

No, the days of the old wireless receiving equipment licence are long gone. You only need a licence if you are watching BBC channels or using their on demand services. It's how they are funded and that is the argument really. should they raise their running costs from other streams?

You can own a TV receiver as long as you don't watch BBC stuff. We don't need one for Bosom Friends as we use the smart TV we have for the internet, YouTube, and direct video input for display purposes. We don't have an antenna or dish and we resist the built in on demand.

I'm fairly sure that isn't correct. Need to check the exact words, but I think if the TV is capable of receiving TV signals then a licence is required. I'll look into it.

When I was in the TV trade we were required by law to report the details of anyone who bought or rented a new TV receiver. Radio's were exempt by then (1970's). We were supplied with an official pad which had a carbon copy of each entry. I think we had pre-paid envelopes supplied as well, from memory we did the returns at the end of each month.

'Scots in China'. Now on BBC Scotland, but also on BBC 2 I think. By the guy that does that boring programme called 'Coast'. Shows A Scottish guy - who has 50% of a heavy engineering company - and has been in business in China since 1985. Has much the same view as Chinatyke on the place. Say's "I'd be embarrassed to take someone from Shanghai to Edinburgh airport".
