Wrought iron is a bit problematical because it already has slag inclusions but you aren't welding a pressure vessel and it will be fine. Just be patient and think of my mates working on pressure vessels....

6.10 pm. No delivery yet, but it does say it will be delivered by 8 pm.
Missed my walk today, as package requires a signature. Hubby went on his own for a walk.
It has been a long day listening out for the door bell....

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I sympathise Maz, I hate waiting for couriers!

Knocking off time after a good two hours in the shed. I am ready to start building as soon as the paint dries, hopefully tomorrow morning.

7.40 pm. No delivery yet. What a waste of a day!
Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Nearly 8.30 pm. Cold, raining, pitch black and miserable...will leave the front light on another 15 mins. But then it is light off, and I am off to bed. I have given up waiting. Catch me tomorrow.

To whom will you bequest your stock of old motors and spare parts? What will they say when they get their inheritance? To the scrap yard and be done!plaques wrote: ↑29 Jul 2020, 07:14 Yesterday I started to salvage any useful parts from a tumble dryer that had died on us, motor, switches and the odd sheet of metal, Stanley's treasure chest syndrome. Will finish off today and then to the dump at some time in the future.
In between rain showers I thought I'd do a bit work on the garden steps hand rail. Mainly cutting the bars to length and welding them in place. I'm absolutely useless at this arc welding caper, not enough Amps to use a decent size rod. But upwards and downwards as they say about steps.
But I know the syndrome, I've got coffee tins full of "it'll-come-in-handy" bits and pieces. I even stop and pick up screws from the pavement!
False economy unless you are like Stanley and have the skills and means to re-use things.
Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
In my will I have specifically left the contents of my garage to the two people who are out of the same mold as myself and should make good use of it. Its one of life's problems, do you throw everything away and buy another when the need arises or save everything 'just in case'? I'm a compulsive hoarder of mechanical junk, it makes me happy, QED.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I took a similar route Ken. I felt it was unfair to burden my daughters with the shed and its contents so after consulting with them I have given the whole lot to my grand nephew in law (I think that's what he is, he is married to Susan's daughter...). That includes the books associated with engineering as well. So It's actually Muthomi's Shed, I am only in there as a tenant until I I die. He is, needless to say, delighted with the deal!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Maz is probably very much like our dear Queen (much younger of course), who has both an official and a private, personal birthday. One has to raise a glass for both occasions!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Happy birthday Maz. Enjoy your day.

Will do! Thanks guys.
( birthday meal had to be fitted in around son’s shifts, Wendy. He often works 6 days a week and can start work as early as 04.00am some days. He doesn’t often get an entire weekend off, so rarely gets to enjoy a meal out and a drink.)
No plans for today yet. My parcel didn’t arrive yesterday ( a birthday present for myself...a Sonos speaker...so if it arrives today I might be bopping to music later).
We are considering a high carb meal tomorrow night ( fish and chips) perhaps.
And that is about as much excitement you can pack into a 61st birthday I reckon!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
Well our two days of nice weather is now reduced to one and a bit. Instead of cold rain we will have warm rain until some arbitrary time in the afternoon. A little weather flash as I am writing has just said the rain will continue for several hours. The forecast last night implied afternoon. I may be an optimist, but the weather this summer is in danger of distorting my natural cheery self.
The situation in Europe leaves us a little concerned about our trip to France on the 10 th. The numbers in France have increased in some coastal areas, they are not unduly concerned at the moment, but now there is talk by Boris that others may follow what has happened to Spain and France is on the quarantine hit list. Our trip is supposedly three weeks so of course anything could happen and 14 days quarantine is not an issue with us on our return, but the retaliation implications by the French government may be. Along with that the company that runs the dockers at St Malo went bust in March, they are still working but are going on strike whenever a ferry arrives so it has to go to Caen instead. This extends our car journey by 2 hours and thus affects arrival time at the house, which further affects other things like shopping for essentials . We are watching the progress of all issues intently.
Yesterday we had a lovely meal with our friends, all well organised. We have booked again for next Wednesday. I also made great progress with my jeans and only have the waistband and button holes to do. The latter will have to wait to till the buttons arrive on Monday. When the weather brightens we plan on walking into Rochdale to visit a couple of shops for essentials, that we cannot get online, or would prefer not to do so eg over the counter medication.
Its pilates this morning, yoga this evening. I am feeling better so its back to normal activities
Have a good, cheerful, dry, sunny day everyone.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Not much chance of the dry day Sue, it's still raining and the forecast says it will do so all morning.
Usual deal here, I am having a breather after two and a half hours in the shed. It must be warmer, I have broken into light perspiration! Off with Jack now, then breakfast and posting on shed matters. It's all go!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Still awaiting my delivery. The update now says it will be delivered by Monday.
It is tedious waiting in for a package that must be signed for. It is disrupting daily walks.
Later...delivery arrived. I set it all up on my own (Dave is in a grump today as he is having further computer problems which frustrate him). I’m all connected via Bluetooth to my music library on my IPad, and I now have a little bit of Saturday Night Fever happening.
I gave myself the gift of music for my 61st birthday, because I have been quiet for far too long. My son says he always remembers me bopping about the house with music on when he was little and it was his suggestion I get back into it. He was right, of course.
I promise I won’t mention Sciatica...

The forecast promises us 29C. The cylinder needs a valve. Tomorrow the forecast is for 17C.
