Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
I think it's down to us being on the boundary between the Yorkshire forecast and that for Lancashire Wendy. The storm seems to have been largely out to the west. All we need to know is it's not windy and the sun is shining!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Nice day on the whole yesterday and nowhere near the wind they forecast. At 20:00 it was mild and dry with a light breeze. First thing this morning it was the same but shortly afterwards it started raining, just looked out and it's dry now and there must be at least one break in the cloud because I can see a couple of stars. The glass has fallen even further to 986mb. The forecast gives rain and sunny intervals later and we still have a yellow warning of strong wind! It says it is gusting to 30mph at the moment but we only have a light breeze. So hare's the wind forecast but I don't believe it, they say the constant SW wind will gust to 40mph but it's almost calm. The wind is warm and the high will be 18C and the low 14C. I think we can discount the -5C wind chill they quote. The outlook is for bright showery weather with a high of around 16C for the next five days. I think we are getting the west coast forecast for east coast weather! (Barlick always was different.)
05:35. A dry walk, mild and a light breeze, lots of breaks in the cloud to the east but darker rain clouds to the west. Nothing like the weather in the forecast.
one unusual sight, a lone Yamaha scooter with 'L' plated parked on the Pioneer car park.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Well, blustery enough when I was in the shower to take a slate off the roof. I heard it skid down the roof and it was in the yard. Not sure it's from our bit or Bill's next door. Will have to have a look out of the Velux. Thought it was my wire antenna at first but that is secure as is my vertical tri-band antenna.Stanley wrote: ↑21 Aug 2020, 04:04 The glass has fallen even further to 986mb. Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
I must have been lucky... I had three dry walks between the showers and at 20:00 it was raining on a light breeze. No first thing this morning because I slept until 05:30 but when I did stir it was raining and at the moment we have broken cloud and it's dry. Perhaps a good time for a short walk! The glass has risen to 998mb. The forecast is for a mixed day, some dry spells but mainly heavy rain. The constant WSW wind is brisk and could be gusty later. The high will be 16C and the low 13C with a -3C chill. The outlook is for similar weather, No high summer in sight and September is on the horizon.
07:30. I've had a walk. Sun coming in from clear sky to the east when we set off but out to the west we had very dark cloud and sure enough by the time I got back it was starting to rain again and no sight of the sun.
08:00. It's gloomy and dark under heavy cloud and yes, it's raining, a complete contrast to an hour ago.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Same thing struck me, some very heavy cloud at times during the day and it felt like back end at 21:00 when I went to bed. I think we have had a shower during the night but at the moment we have clear sky with brilliant stars and a light breeze. The glass has risen and is on a shade over 1005mb and steady. The forecast is for sunny intervals and light showers. The wind is westerly and moderate all day giving a high of 16C a low of 12C and a -2C wind chill. The outlook is for similar cool weather except for Tuesday which looks windy and wet.
05:30. Back from a short walk. It's still almost calm, just a very light west wind but the big change is that masses of black cloud are rolling in and there is a hint of rain in the air. Not looking very cheerful. The dawn light behind the clouds in the east is making for a very angry sky. Not a soul about on this gloomy Sunday Morning.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Not an exciting day yesterday and at 20:00 we had a light breeze and a suspicion of rain. First thing this morning it was cool, a light breeze and a clear sky. I've just had a walk and it's still the same. I have put a thicker shirt on, reports of grass frost in the Scottish Glens yesterday, there is a back end feel in the air. The glass is up slightly on 1008mb. The forecast is for a dry day with sunny spells. The constant moderate mainly WNW wind gives us a high of 16C and a low of 11C with as much as a -3C chill later in the day. Tomorrow and Tuesday will be wet and windy with yellow warnings for the wind. The rest of the week will be drier but cooler and, perhaps significantly, overnight temperatures down into single figures.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
We walked down to Kelbrook yesterday as I had a history society book to deliver to a customer. We set off wearing waterproofs as the clouds looked threatening and soon wished we had worn hats and gloves as the wind had a chill in it. In Kelbrook it was warm and sunny so the waterproofs came off and sleeves rolled up, natives were in t shirts and shorts! It cooled as we climbed and picked up the wind again, then in the last half mile home the rain came down in sheets! Waterproofs quickly back on but we were dripping by the time we reached home, the water had run down into the tops of my otherwise superbly dry boots.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
It's that sort of weather isn't it Wendy. I never saw rain yesterday but thought it was cooler despite the good sun in the afternoon. At 20:00 it was calm overcast and cool and that was true first thing this morning. I've just looked outside and it's still calm but we now have steady significant rain. The glass is down on 998mb and falling very fast, not a good sign. The forecast is quite simple, heavy rain all day (Yellow warnings for both wind and rain). The wind starts ESE but ends the day as SW and is brisk and gusty all day giving a high of 17C and a low of 12C with a wind chill of up to -3C. A very unseasonable day and this weather persists until about 09:00 tomorrow when it becomes dry, calmer but cooler. No summer weather in sight I am afraid.
[Good job Sue's flitting was yesterday!]
05:25. Back from a short walk, I don't have to worry about Jack emptying himself so no heroics, just a walk round the block to get some fresh air into my lungs and waken my legs and system up! It's still calm (Thank you God) but we have serious steady rain and it's cool. I tapped the glass when I cam in and it's still falling rapidly. I have no reason to doubt the forecast of rain all day.
The shipping forecast confirms that we are in a very strong wind pattern, gales up the storm force 10 all round.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Just dropped my car off at the garage, the walk back home was a bit wet. As you say, no wind yet.
Sounds like the motorcyclist, who collided with a wagon, on the road to Bracewell this morning got off reasonably lightly. Colne and West Craven police reported no serious injuries and the road has been reopened.

Watching BBC2 last night, it seems to be better for (fatty) breakfasts if you excercise a bit the previous evening before going to bed - but I dont think they did a control of a 5am pre-breakfast - for those that have it - walk.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Glad to hear that Kev. It was a wet day but from reports on the news we got off lightly with both the wind and the rain. At 20:00 it was still raining and the same first thing this morning. Just looked out and no change, still raining but very little wind. The glass is on 995mb and rising. I kept an eye on it yesterday and it fell all day as the low moved up the Irish Sea reaching 976mb at about 18:00 when it started rising and is still going up. The forecast is for a bright overcast day but they still have the yellow warning for both wind and rain but it expires at 06:00, no rain forecast. The mainly WNW wind is constant, gusting to 30mph and gives a high of 16C and a low of 12C with a -3C chill until the wind drops later. Once again the wind doesn't feel as strong as that down here in the shelter of the valley.
The outlook is for cooler weather with night time temperatures in single figures, could be showers tomorrow and the next day. Not summer.
05:35. I've had my early walk. Still light rain but it's dying out. The light breeze is northerly and noticeably cooler than yesterday when It was very mild.
There is a new addition to the small lawn opposite Ladbrokes. Yesterday a substantial concrete foundation appeared with four large holding down bolts set in it. If I was guessing I'd say it looked like a flagpole. No signs of any electrical connection to it as yet. We shall see.

You're correct in your presumption. The town square flag pole is moving closer to the war memorial. It will have easier access to raise and lower the flag in its new location.Stanley wrote: ↑26 Aug 2020, 04:00 There is a new addition to the small lawn opposite Ladbrokes. Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
A much better day yesterday. At 21:00 it was cool and clearing but we still had a touch of light rain. This morning first thing it was calm, cool and clear with brilliant stars, since then we appear to have overcast but it is still dry. The glass continued its rise all day yesterday and is now on 1010mb. The forecast is for an overcast but mainly dry day with the chance of a light shower later. The wind is mainly SSE and light but cool giving a high of 15C and a low of 12C with only a slight wind chill. The outlook is for cooler weather and for the next three nights single figure temperatures. The first grass frost may be closer than we think.
05:20. A calm, cool, quiet walk on a dry morning. Activity at Cravenside the care home, bad news for someone I fear. On a brighter note, we now have a plastic flagpole complete with Union Flag and the turves have been replaced round it.

The thing that struck me yesterday was that I never felt warm. At 20:00 as I was going to bed it was cool and dry and first thing this morning it was cool and wet! It's still the same and the glass is like a yo-yo, after rising it started falling just as fast and this morning is down on 996mb and still falling. I begin to suspect that we are seeing an early onset of the equinoctial gales. The forecast is for an overcast wet day. The wind is basically a moderate NE flow that gives a high of only 13C and a low tonight of 8C. There will be a significant wind chill all day rising to -3C, at the moment it feels like single figures out there. The outlook is for cool weather and cold nights, I have a feeling the CH will be kicking in before long. Worth remembering we are still in August and this is not normal weather. Feels definitely back endish.
05:20. I've had my early walk, lovely to get fresh air! We are so lucky in Barlick, at this time of the morning I think we probably have the best air quality possible these days.... It's cool, 100 % heavy overcast and light rain. The only people about are the Poles(I think) who get their lift at just after 5 in the morning, I think they work in the slaughterhouse at Gisburn. Otherwise all is quiet. Too quiet of course!

Yesterday was, on the whole, cold and wet. At 20:00 it was cool, dry and a light breeze, first thing this morning it was calm, clear, dry and cool, the heating was on at low level. I've had my early walk and we have had a light shower but clear skies are coming down from the North on a light breeze and it is now dry. The glass rose slowly all day yesterday and is on 1005mb and still rising. The forecast is for a dry day, sun until noon and then clouding over. The wind is a constant northerly giving a high of 14C and a low of 6C with a wind chill of -3C around dawn. The outlook is for similar weather and already the forecasters are talking about the coldest August Bank Holiday on record. This is very unseasonal weather and the heating season has started in August. Deep joy!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
We'll have to see how it pans out for camping next week. I hope I don't have to pitch in the rain, having said that the air tent goes up in less than 5 mins. Not good to start with some of your gear wet though! Over the years when camping, (or attempting to) we have lost tents with rigid poles in July, August and September so nothing is guaranteed weather wise in this country. The two major losses were both in 80mph gales gusting to over 100mph, lots of scope for adventure with the kids when they were little! At the end of the day we are naturally waterproof, always look on the bright side.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
I agree Ian on the whole but even the Met Office are talking about the coldest August Bank Holiday on record.
Yesterday was mostly dry but never warm. At 20:00 it was overcast, a light breeze, dry and cool. First thing this morning it was calm, cold, dry and we had a crystal clear sky. I've just peeped out and no change, CH firing away merrily! The glass has risen to 1015mb and is still tending to rise. The forecast is very similar to yesterday, a sunny morning but clouding over after noon. The constant light NW wind gives a high of 14C and a a low of 9C with a -2C wind chill. The outlook is for similar weather, may be slightly warmer and perhaps more chance of a shower. Not high summer!
05:10. Yes, an early walk on a quiet Sunday morning. Light NW wind, clear sky, cold enough to make breath steam but the air is like wine! Tow people, on falling over drunk in Station Road and one man arguing with the driver a a car who had dropped him on Skipton Road which then set off at high speed. Both instances private grief! Unusually it's clear enough for early dawn light to be coming in from the East as I got home. Definitely a feel of Autumn in the air. Nice to get back into the warmth.

Our weather is much the same as Barlick today.
High of 14C with a low of 5C tonight.
Mostly cloudy conditions with 31km/h winds.
10% chance of rain. Humidity 70%.
Spring in 2 days time.

I see they do meteorological seasons in Australia as well, whatever next!. We slip into Autumn on the 22nd of next month. I'll look forward to that rather than skipping an entire season and looking ahead to Winter. Late Summer camping next week, bring it on.
