Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
What I don't understand is why there should be any doubt as to Col's eligibility for a jab.
Did I mention that Susan's Mick had his vaccination on Thursday morning? He's having the same reaction as I am, achy, definitely not normal but not serious. I shall have another day of minimal activity.

How I see it is there will have been 66 million people put on a list and their eligibility set. Col's eligibility has changed (potentially since the 'list' was created) and it'll need a 'poke with a big stick' to alter it.

That's exactly how we see it Kev, plus the fact that it's not about personal risk.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
The after effects of the AstraZeneca jab are over and the funny thing is that now they have gone I know exactly what they were, sore arm, aches and pains, slight headache and most of all a feeling of depression. Happy to say all have gone and the world is suddenly a much brighter place now I know that shortly the odds will shift slightly in my favour!
That's what I want for Col as well and have everything crossed for your efforts Wendy. In my case cancer treatment was one of the factors that made me eligible and certainly triggered advice to shield and not go out. What else is chemotherapy?
One the wider front, good news that vaccination is going so well, 11million yesterday I think. Not so good news that the usual suspects are waving their statistics and calling for an early easing of lock down. Have they learned nothing form the last easing we did? Better safe than sorry is my attitude, Keep contacts down for as long as is possible.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
The vaccine roll out is all fine and dandy and proceeding at pace. However the open everything up brigade miss one glaring observation. So far the main thrust of the vaccination program has been for the over 80's and those in care homes, now progressing onto the over 70s's. This is not the cohort that is spreading the virus!
The main bunch who are, those who are mobile through age and employment have not been vaccinated yet and it will take a few more months before they are. Surely their should be no relaxation in the "lockdown" until the majority of the younger end of the population have had the jab! Seems pretty obvious to me or do I have it completely wrong? After all I am just a pleb.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
An update on family. Jack and Jemma are both back at work but say they are still feeling the effects of fatigue. My Silsden granddaughter Isla is coming to the end of her isolation period I think about now. She hasn't had the virus but someone in her school bubble tested positive so everyone in her bubble were sent home.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Currently the main thrust is to reduce hospitalisation and deaths Ie: mainly the older people and the most vulnerable. As you move down the list to younger people there is still some severe risks but by comparison the numbers are smaller. From earlier posts its obvious that there are a lot of 'vulnerable' people in the lower age groups who should be moved up the priority list irrespective of age. Any total lockdown and restricting peoples earnings comes at a price which will need the wisdom of Solomom to decide where to draw the line.
A lot of doubt is being expressed about the efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccine against the South African variant covid. At this point in time nobody really knows the full story but its still a good option against the main virus strains that are in circulation. Far better than mainlining bleach as advocated by EX-President Trump.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Early trials, not yet published, not peer reviewed, small sample and the results are only relevant to mild disease at the moment - it may work very well against serious disease. Those involved in the study had predominantly been young, healthy adults so we don't know about older folk yet.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Us plebs should stick together. There will be some, who see a miniscule drop in infection rates as a green light to ignore common sense. There will also be some members of government who will push to give them the green light to do so.
But then, what do I know?

Now where have I heard that phrase before? Is there a French phrase for deja vu?

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
I agree with all of you. The support in Parliament for early easing is almost certainly driven by the money. Ian is right. Let's not make the same mistake we did last time!!

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Vaccination commenced for 65-69 year olds in Rochdale and a contact number and email have been released for anyone in the first 4 phases to contact if they have been missed.
If you keep searching you will find it

Good, that sounds positive Sue.
I heard the NHS this morning throwing their weight against any early easing of the lockdown restrictions.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
The government briefing today reinforced the NHS stance on easing restrictions, the press were firmly told that it's way too early to speculate any lifting of restrictions. Good.
For any over 70s, who haven't had an invite for a vaccination, Matt Hancock said to book one. You can do it here https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavir ... mfT1dYSbZk
or by phoning 119
or, as a very last resort, your GP's surgery.
I signed up for the NHS/MORI testing survey last week, the test kit arrived today and I have to swab my tonsils and nostrils on Wednesday morning. I have a courier booked to collect it. There's an online survey I have to complete just after taking the test and I'll get results a couple of days later.

Couldn't resist that Kev, sorry for laughing at it. (for those of you who missed it, Kev's post said he had to swap his nose and tonsils, not swab.

It made me laugh too, the autocorrect on my phone must have changed it as p is nowhere near b on the keyboard (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it).
