Otto Lilienthal, his experiments with gliders eventually killed him but he did influence many who came after him.

Well that stopped you dead in your tracks! Is anyone going to have a go at it? Or should I claim victory and set another?

If there is no response I shall knock it on the head.
Clue, it's a beautiful model of a vital steam engine accessory that promotes overall thermal efficiency.

Any sentence that contains the words beautiful and thermal efficiency must be related to a condenser unit. Which bit and where its located I've no idea. :cool4:

Well done Ken. I am going to give it to you because that's exactly what it is. A model of a surface condenser for a reciprocating vertical steam Marine engine. If you take the ends off it's a got a beautiful nest of condenser tubes. The idea was to condense the exhaust on marine engines using salt water which could not be allowed to contaminate the boiler feed water as it was death to steel boilers.

I'll guess at 'Lone Pines, California. As a kid I spent the best part of saturday afternoon watching Roy Rogers and Trigger gallop round the same rocks week after week.

Kev is the nearest and I'm going to give it to him. It's the Painted Desert (LINK)
The connection to the cowboy films is that these are 'The Badlands' where the fugitives escaped to time after time....
