One of the Post WW2 things like town twinning and NATO. to give some kind of peace and reconciliation on a more personal and corporate level. The European Broadcasting Union generally contained the State - backed broadcasters (dont know if independent commercial licenced ones were included as full or associate members). Much was/is a technical sharing and a bit of a directors jolly junket out for a week away conferences. The radio element was also part of it, I recall Radio 2 doing 'Pop over Europe' which was a cross between Eurovision Song Contest and Juke Box Jury, the countries voted on a selected new release disc to give it the best of the week (or was it month ?)
It was Westway in Burnley. My own stupid fault, it's not a bit of road I've used before so just followed the traffic. I should have been paying attention and looking at the road signs.
