Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
There is an embarrassment in being corrected, and flat typing never comes over like a proper convesation with tone in the meaning of the words chosen - even phone calls are difficult when we also cannot read faces.
Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Latest test has gone off to the lab for a closer look, leucocyte count is up so it looks like I still have a UTI, I wondered why I was feeling a bit pants. That biopsy has a lot to answer for...

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Col had nearly 2 years of UTIs following his bladder cancer, he eventually created a spreadsheet of infections and antibiotic treatment which showed that there was only one antibiotic that worked well for him and that was Ciprofloxacin. It's a powerful drug and doctors are quite reluctant to prescribe it but it has just worked for him again following an ineffective dose of Cephalexin.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
The lady doctor in Bacup knocked my Cystitis on the head by giving me exactly the right antibiotic. It has never reappeared since.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I think I can report that Colin is emerging from his invalid state into a thin and weak human being..... yesterday he came to Lidl with me and then asked to go on to Morrison's in Nelson. The shopper returns! I had to drive him into Nelson centre where he could go and visit the nice man who sells sugar free toffees in his sweet shop. In the afternoon we visited friends in Skipton and sat out chatting over a cuppa.
Now I need him to drive himself because he has started bossing me around again.

He'll literally be `back in the driving seat' - good news, Wendy.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Excellent news Wendy, getting back to a bit of normality can bring folk on leaps and bounds. I know the minor goals I set myself and each one conquered makes you want to do more, get further, do it quicker or whatever. All good stuff.

We just had a drive up the road to get to some level ground for a short walk.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
The poles are actually mine Ian, I find them reassuring on slippy and uneven ground. Col has been relying on them for support as he is still a bit unsteady on his feet. He should have taken both with him this morning but he refused.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
My physio's swore by them as used correctly in pairs at the right height they encourage correct framing. Far better than a zimmer or sticks as they keep you upright or "standing tall" as Laura used to say.

Nice to see the old bugger in the flesh.
"I find them reassuring on slippy and uneven ground."
That's why I have taken to using a stick Wendy, not for leaning on but simply to act as an insurance policy, my balance is not what it was and a stick could mean I avoid a fall. As you get older falls get to be more important!

The results are in, I received a text message this morning advising collection of antibiotics from the chemist.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Have a read of THIS Article about breathing. It's not just a fad but really basic useful information. Nobody ever taught me about proper breathing when I was young. I wish they had.
Don't just dismiss it, try it and be surprised.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Just noticed this so glanced at the article. The biology of it was familiar to me. The rest we practice in both yoga and pilates, it is an essential part of the exercises ( and relaxation) we do.
If you keep searching you will find it

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
My PhD supervisor used nasal irrigation with a salt solution. We all knew when he was `irrigated' because he walked about with his head held back to stop the liquid running out of his nostrils and that's when we avoided him. He once forgot during a science practical and leaned over to look at what one of the BSc students was writing in her notes - he managed to splash her notes and the girl screamed in disgust!

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I was watching the rugby yesterday and there was a close-up head shot of the penalty kicker as he prepared to take the penalty. It was obvious he was doing a breathing exercise to settle himself before he made the attempt. (It worked, 2 points!)
Peter. Your PhD supervisor should have done his irrigating in private!

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I agree, and he looked daft walking around with his head held back as if looking for flies on the ceiling! But then he always was one for trying out anything which sometimes got him into worse trouble than just a runny nose.
