Morning

Another cool looking day ahead like yesterday. We walked to the bank in the morning and did a variation on our 4.2 mile circuit. We never even unzipped our fleeces it was that cool. Although the forecast said 17 degrees I don’t think it got beyond 14 all day. in the afternoon Bob went to the park to do some railway maintenance and I continued with my embroidery course. I completed two chapters, then when I got to the very last question of the last assessment I found I had another piece of embroidery to design and do, so this morning I shall be starting that. I am keen to finish as I bought another course yesterday on botanical art which I don’t want to start till this one is finished.

This afternoon we are off to Wendy and Keiths for a cuppa and a chat. This evening I have pilates. Talking of pilates my other teacher Taira who was camping in Cornwall last week has come back with covid. She, like so many, is double vaccinated. Her main symptoms are a blinding headache plus general lethargy. As a reminder we did our weekly lateral flow test, which was negative. However I am beginning to think that with any degree of normal life there is an inevitability that we will succumb eventually

Have a good day, enjoy the bookie watching Stanley, you will need that jacket :laugh5:

You're right about the leather jacket Sue and also the almost inevitable dose of Covid if you pursue a 'normal life'. That's why I shall be shielding or something very close to that regardless of what anyone else is doing. I have survived this far without infection, my aim is to continue to be 'lucky'. A large part of that 'luck' is what many might consider to be excessive precautions. That's OK, each to his or her own but I have seen what Covid can do.
I've had two hours in the shed, I'll put a pic up later.....

Here's my knocking off time pic, good progress and no mistakes. More to do yet but we are on the right track.

I can understand where you are coming from Stanley but I do think covid will become part of our daily lives like flu and the winter vomiting bug . Whilst I remain careful I am not prepared to put the remaining 20 years of my life on hold. I will take all the appropriate precautions and observe the risk levels as I return to my normal activities. I have u3a art on Friday, it will be my first session but the group returned to normal sessions in mid July. The National u3a recommended certain health and safety procedures before face to face workshops began which all the Todmorden groups have adopted.

I'm lucky Sue in that shielding doesn't involve changing my life at all, it's constricted now by personal taste and age....
No shed today, I'm remembering how well last Friday went with no shed and then a walk round Clitheroe. I shall ditch the shed and do early doors shop at 6AM. Then second sleep and up at 10:00 to scrub up for Clitheroe Market with Susan.

Morning

Well yesterday morning I managed to do my last remaining piece of embroidery and finished the course so I can now embark on my drawing course which hopefully will get me back into the mood and mode of art thinking and practice. I have hardly done any this year. Jeremy Ford whose workshops I used to do has moved house and has not yet set up his new studio from where he used to do his zoom workshops. In the afternoon we had a good long natter with Wendy and Keith and it was after 5.00 pm when we arrived back home.

This morning is pilates but I think it will be a youtube class. I don’t think Taira has a stand in for a day class as all her other instructors have full time jobs during the day I have no particular plans. I need to sort out my art bag for tomorrows art class but otherwise nothing pressing.

Have a good day everyone

Morning

Eventually a nice day yesterday but it took its time. I spent some time on my online drawing course and felt a bit more motivated towards this mornings u3a art class. The time has changed to 10.00 am start from 11. 00 am si its an early start this morning . This is to give the caretaker the time to clean the hall between two bookings. The kitchen will not be used so I shall take a flask of coffee with me. After art its lunch with Wendy, Keith, Barbara and Bill. No doubt it will be late afternoon when we get home. We like to have a good chat :laugh5:

Susan and I decided yesterday that that's one of the reasons why we get on so well together. We interact so well and also know when to keep quiet!
Interesting spell in the shed, I shall return.....

Fitting the crankshaft to the bearings went well but when I went on to the crosshead I found the casting was nothing like the shape of the drawing! I'm going to have to get imaginative tomorrow....

Glad you had a good day out Stanley. It makes all the difference being able to get out occasionally. Art today will be my first group activity. I am a little apprehensive. All doors and windows will be open so I have an old fleece with me as we are using inks today. I also have a mask, the disposable ones , as I can breathe in them better. At this time of year my asthma affects my breathing in the mornings . I can’t posdibly wear it for 2.5 hours so may well use a visor next time instead

Swapping out the mattress was interesting. Me and P got the new one up the stairs after much 'huffing and puffing', a 59kg superking is not the easiest thing to move. Due to the 'steepness' of the stairs the shortest distance between the stair treads and the downstairs ceiling is considerably less than the width of the mattress. The old one is down and on the roof rack ready for a trip to the tip, a brew is in order first though.

I shall be in the shed with me engine and at some time today I shall cook veggies!
Your mattress story reminds me of the stairs at 12 King Street and getting the Vi-Spring Elite mattress which was stiff and very heavy. The stairs were so narrow and steep that the treads were made so that they were easily detachable. Then the mattress had to be doubled and tied with rope and three strong men got it upstairs eventually. I did wonder at the time about how anyone would get a body down stairs. A coffin would be impossible and don't bother considering taking the window out, too small!

Some houses used to be built with Ceiling Coffin Hatches. That would be hard work too.

Morning

How interesting Cathy. We have problems with our bungalow. We have much extended it since we bought it creating a lot of tight corners which make for interesting manipulation of furniture in or out of the house. We got out new American fridge freezer for our kitchen the song RIGHT SAID FRED came to mind. I even wrote a little essay about it when I was still attending u3a Creative Writing.

Yesterday both art and lunch went well and in the evening Bob attended his first monthly meeting of the Model Engineers group. They had a talk by Keith who came to see you Stanley. This morning is Bacup market, followed by a degree of housework ie bedding changing and washing. This afternoon we are popping over to Preston to see Claire as we forgot to give her the shopping she requested from France. I also want to pick the rest of my tomatoes and bring them inside to ripen. As we are away in Northumberland next week I feel,I really can’t ask our neighbour to water again. The tomatoes are the only things left that would really need that so I have decided i will ripen them off inside

So thats my day, enjoy yours

I replied early on and lost the post. I've been in the shed for more than two hours making my bum crosshead fit the engine. There was a problem with the drawing (another one!) See shed matters for the details but I had a trial fit and we have made progress, everything turns easily.

Morning

Stanley I was watching a repeat of Michael Portillos train journeys yesterday. He went io Clarion House near Nelson. Is it the same one?

Yesterday I managed to pick all my tomatoes. I have kept them on the vine as they ripen and loaded them on to covered tea trays in my sewing room. The riper ones will go in the fridge to slow them down whilst we are away. There are far more than I thought and they fill 4 large trays. I then cut the plants down and generally tidied the greenhouse. I moved my pots of dying back potatoes into the greenhouse so that the squirrels can’t dig them up whilst we are away. I have three courgette plants growing in there, recovered from the garden two weeks ago. They look healthier but there is not much happening flower wise. I have watered them well and shall just leave them and see what happens. Similarly outside I shall give my runner beans a good water this afternoon as I see I have lots more forming. Finally I washed down the garden table and chairs and put them back in the shed until next year I think, before a having a light lunch and spending a lovely afternoon over at Claire’s .

This morning I have a pedicure at Vickys, then this afternoon whilst Bob is at the park I shall pack for Northumberland ( a mixture of warm and waterproof clothes I think though up until Wednesday the weather is promising) . I shall then make some tomato soup and ratatouille that we can take with us, using up the ripe tomatoes in the fridge. I did the washing and ironing yesterday so at least that is done . Other than that I have nothing pressing that I have to do.

Have a good day , promises to be quite nice

Yes Sue, that's the one. Well worth a visit! Full of history. Ian is involved in it and I have an idea he might join in.
You could hit some of the hottest weather of the year next week! They're talking about 25C in Barlick....

I resolved the differences in the drawings and parts list and finished up with a new pin in the crosshead after some watchmaking. A good hour and a half, I enjoyed it.

Late onto the site today. We have been up to Wharfedale RUFC to watch Finlay in training, he plays for the juniors.

For the record, Clarion House is open every Sunday 10am to at least 4pm or whatever time the team wants to wrap thing up. Nice days can extend the opening hours. :extrawink:

Event on the 19th for Clarion Sunday.

The Harry Hill Bench Memorial ride will leave Clarion House 0915hrs then onto Barnoldswick. War Memorial 10.15hrs leave 10.30hrs , HHB 10.45hrs photo then ride onto Clarion House for Clarion Sunday. Route to be announced nearer the time, needless to say it will be a bit hilly.😉🚴

I think this sums up yesterday's visit to Clarion House, all the UK family there, lovely day, magnificent view and Susan and the kids playing in the long grass. Kahara loved the paths mown in the long meadow grass which is as tall as him. Perfect way to spend a couple of hours. Very good Ian and a credit to all. I popped a donation into the box. I got rid of an engine by giving it to Jessica for the Bump (which is very impressive now....)
Today I shall be in the shed with the current engine. Then second sleep and bookie watch looks to be on as the weather is forecast as good.
