Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Most of them look like simple fence posts but the ones with curly bits on the top look like places to which you could chain your bicycle or electric scooter.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Oh OK. Thanks anyway, I’m wondering if it might have something to do with Forestry...?
I’ll give it a bit longer.

Well, I suppose it could be a system for pumping air into the ground around the tree roots to make sure they stay healthy - they wouldn't want to lose such a beautiful avenue of trees. Some street trees are given so-called vertical aeration, nicknamed street snorkels!

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
They look like crowd barriers stacked against the trees. Is there any clue as to where the photo was taken Cathy?
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
All I know is that Elbert Hubbard was a famous American writer.
Maybe the pic was taken in America.
Doesn’t really help
Just a thought, maybe someone could do one of ‘reverse photo’ things. It might shed some light on it.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Tried that Cathy and it just comes up with all the different vendors of this "seasons calendar" which is available vie Ebay and multiple other suppliers world wide. One says the images are from New England but none give details of the picture.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Street trees here always have a vertical 70mm diameter polypropylene pipe installed near the trunk when they are newly planted. I always thought it was for watering the roots but aeration makes more sense. I didn't know you needed to aerate street tree roots.Tizer wrote: ↑04 Oct 2021, 09:05 ...something to do with Forestry...?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Oh well, there we are. Thanks everyone for trying. It will probably stay a mystery.
I like the idea of aerating the trees.
You can jump in now Stanley, I imagine you have been itching to

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Don't go yet Cathy! I've been googling over my lunch and found the answer. The photo is of ginko trees in a park in Tokyo and the metal bits are the arms of benches! There are many photos (Google 'tree tunnels' ) but only this shot came up with the answer.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Brilliant Wendy. Martha had a Ginko tree in her garden in Northfield and she told me all the leaves fall off on the same day. I remember being a bit sceptical about this but then sat there entranced watching all the leaves fall off on a windless day after a sharp frost. They all fell to the ground directly under the tree in about two hours. I don't know if they all do the same thing.....

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Just one point, Martha's Ginko leaves were still green when they dropped.
What is it and why is it special?
