MYSTERY OBJECTS
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Not by sight, I have to admit. I saw the words on the ring and therefore googled the Newington Connecticut together with bottle stopper because that's what it looked like, even though you said that was wrong. A lot of auction site pages came up with people in Newington selling old bottle stoppers. I then clicked on images and amid all those stoppers was an image with the caption `bird caller' and that looked just like your photo. So I got it but only by coincidence!

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
yes, it's an Audubon bird caller.
You twist the wooden part to make the call.
Ok, Stanley, yer up.

I'll give a bonus pat on the back if you can tell me what's special about the viaduct.

There could be a link to a family I once worked for (briefly) at Stonegappe in Lothersdale.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
As no one else has jumped in with the answer I'll give it a go! It looks very much like the Glenfinnan viaduct on the West Highland line between Fort William and Mallaig, built using concrete in the construction by Robert McAlpine. I worked for Richard McAlpine, one of his great grandsons, at Stonegappe. It was a brief experience as his first wife had no idea how to treat her employees, and I walked out when she turned her unpleasantness on me.
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Good on you Wendy, there’s no need to put up with that.
