So close I have to give it to you Gloria. Well done for working it out. Yes, It's a high pressure lubricator for a steam engine cylinder. It's a 4 feed model and was made by Kirkham's of Bolton. John Kirkham gave me two when he closed the business and I completely refurbished them.

I was too late for the Gladstone Pottery. It's in Longton and that's where my maternal grandmother and her ancestors lived. They were potters' printers.

Some kind of Dock or basin on the canal in the potteries

That's true Tom but what exactly is the factory. Very closely connected to Gladstone and here's a clue, it's also a museum now. (We have had it before.)

Not mystery objects but simply two nice images that I thought worth sharing! Side tipplers were more common than these end tippler wagons.

Note the shiny 'bollards' in the top picture. These were capstans used to pull the coal trucks to where they were needed by means of ropes. There was a pedal in the floor that connected them to the underground shaft drive. They were also used in railway sidings for shunting operations.
