They have put the "er" in the wrong word and forgotten totally about the "of". Dyslexic, I think not.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Phonetic spelling. Just write down what it sounds like. Sort of deliberate Chinese whispers.
On another subject.... Margaret flies out of Perth in 11 hours and hasn't started packing yet. Tension mounts.

I could understand the phonetic spelling if they'd written 'chestov draws'.

Slightly off piste. Mrs P really upset by the refugee scenes in Ukraine. A donation to the DEC, Ukrainian Appeal via PayPal was instructed. Job done.
Still deeply angered by Priti Patel's and Liz Truss's treatment of refugees. Convoys of humanitarian aid from UK charities being held up because we (UK) seem incapable of liaising with the EU countries to arrange a piece of paper that would give clearance to all trucks and wagons carrying 'not for resale' aid. Pathetic. Of course labelled EU Red Tape in an attempt to blame others when in fact its what we voted for with our Brexit brain fart.

Well done, Plaques. As you've probably seen in an earlier post, we've done the same. Got to do something.
I see Wendy has started her Colne photos thread which will be very interesting. In the meantime here's some old Stockport photos that Stanley might enjoy. Mrs Tiz found the story on the BBC web site...

There's another lovely photo on the `Where The Light Gets In' restaurant's web page here: WTLGI

Wonderful link - thanks. She is the Gus Brennan of her day. Doesn't it all look run down, and depressing?
Interesting how times and attitudes change.I follow a lady who does videos currently, but carefully avoids photgraphing shots with people in them, especially children. The BBC's take, and choice of the main photograph is also interesting.
When did anyone last buy a quarter of 'elder' and even how many people know what it is?

Or even wezel......
Just watched Margaret's flight leave Perth for ten hours over the Indian Ocean, 9,500 miles to Dubai.
I've looked at the link Peter. A bit too modern for me!

I looked up elder and the meaning is on the web. However, wezel wasn't. If anyone wants to know what it is, just ask!

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
There were 5 photos of Barrowford, Burnley and Nelson in the same book as I got the Colne photo from. I've scanned them and uploaded them with their original captions and a reference to the book. They're all presently available when you navigate to Miscellaneous Subjects/Historical/Events. I'll leave it to local members to decide if they want to post them in any threads.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I've learned something this morning. (Again!)
One of the reasons why Well Pharmacy are being so dilatory about my meds (I run out tomorrow and they don't have them ready) is that they no longer make it up here in Barlick but at an outside source. They have only just been delivered today and so will not be ready for collection until this afternoon at the earliest.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
We use the Well pharmacy next door to our surgery in Taunton and similar things go on there. I think they keep some stock at centralised locations and provide it when requested. `Just in time' strikes again!

As I understand it the UK has implemented a simplified process that allows charitable supplies out of the UK but there is no linked up reciprocal agreement with the EU countries. Some are being waved through while others are experiencing delays. The Government Web site 10 March is more than a bit vague on the overall plan. Ukrainian Aid.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I heard a professional in the 'Aid Industry' say yesterday that sending convoys of donated goods was not the best way to help as often what was sent was not what was needed. Donations to established aid organisations is best as they can target need.
On another quite unrelated topic.... I heard a man being interviewed on R4 giving advice on recycling. He sounded very knowledgeable about the industry he works in. He said a useful rule is that nothing smaller than a tennis ball gets hand sorted so taking lids and labels off items was largely a waste of time.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I heard this morning that Bancroft had a visitor and they asked if I recognised him. I didn't but they sent one of my pics of him 50 years ago. It's Roy Wellock who was a tackler at the shed. He's going to be at the centenary steaming on April 3rd.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
That's exactly what was said by a Taunton builder who cancelled his building jobs and is now out there, having taken goods and is now advising that money be provided instead of goods.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Interesting thing to me was that as soon as I mentioned the name Roy Wellock she knew who he was and described him as he was in the 1970s.
