Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
the only thing on a loom I know about is the SLAY. but I didn't think it was this purpose.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
SLAY, SLEY- The frame in which the reed is fixed and which moves the reed forward to beat up the weft.
The top shelf is the track the shuttle runs on and the slay maker's skill was making the slay with a slight depression in the middle so that the shuttle was pinned to the board by centrifugal force. I realise that I have been a bit ambiguous and apologise.
Next one?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
This is a case of too many names for the same thing...
From the `Glossary of Weaving Terms' of the `The Weavers’ Company' LINK
Beater: Often referred to as the sley or batten. Used to beat up the weft into the fell of the cloth.
Sley: The frame, which hangs in front of the shafts on the loom, supports the reed through which the warp ends are threaded in order. The slay is pushed back and forth during he process of weaving, to press the yarn firmly into the fell of the cloth. Sometimes referred to as the beater, batten, lay, lathe, going-part or fly-beam.

Sorry ladies, that bloody Kev has done it again! He's right, it's a small anvil that jewellers and small metal artefact makers used.

Probably ‘way off’, are they brakes of some sort?
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Wendy is absolutely right, they are a very early version of the small lens fitted in doors for identifying visitors. Rather more complex and I have an idea they are From the US.
