Got some cocodamol from the doc this morning, the insurance have refererred the injuries to their solicitors in case of any expenses incurred and the usual compensation. I don't always agree with a lot of the compensation claims but it was initiated by the insurance so I'll run with it.Sue wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 12:00 Ignore what I said about A&E Kev, just read all the running commentaries. In my one and only nastyish accident my insurance company sent me for a private health check. Good job you had a dash cam. We have too . Good luck with car search and hope none of your bruises etc linger too long

I hear what you are saying about compo Kev but in this case where the damage was caused by someone's sheer stupidity/negligence I reckon you are entitled to everything you can get. There would be no question if the injuries were disabling, this is only a matter of degree. Go for it.

I'm glad you said that
There's no doubt where the blame lies, I've watched the dashcam footage a few times now and if he did see me he made no attempt to stop.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I've pondered getting a dash cam several times my problem seems to be where to place it. The internal rear view mirror has a large area taken up behind it with the 'auto' sensors and the dash itself has a steep rake angle that nothing will sit on it plus the normal power supply is set way back on the centre console. With the head bangers taking over the roads I must have another look at it.
Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Mine was placed just behind the rear view mirror, the rubber sucker had a bit of assistance with a few dabs of Bostik. I bought a better shielded power cable, as the original interfered with the radio, and run it to an aftermarket 12v power socket and a 'jumper' fuse. The fuse box on the Yeti is on the end of the dashboard. Plugged it in to a switched fuse, sorted. The actual camera unit was £30 on Fleabay, full HD and writes to a microSD card. Unfortunately the camera took a bit of a battering but, fortunately, saved the crucial footage upon impact (an inbuilt function).plaques wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 15:57 I've pondered getting a dash cam several times my problem seems to be where to place it. You're welcome Kev. It seems perfectly logical to me.
Today is Early Doors shopping at the Co-op at 07:00 so the shed might get cancelled again. I note that my shoulder has improved this week and that coincides with not going in the shed.... Could be a message there.
(Incidentally Kev, the problem with my shoulder goes back to my accident when I wrote Richard Drinkall's car off. You never know how long you are going to be affected even if you only had bruising, that's still an injury. So go for the compo.)

Morning
I agree. Someone drove in to the back of me expecting me to pull away into oncoming traffic ( which he could not see) at a T junction on a hill. The collision gave me whip lash but more important it aggravated my already bad back. He claimed I had been holding my car on the clutch and had rolled back in to him. Impossible it was an automatic car. The insurance company told me not to accept the £1000 compensation I was offered and sent me to a specialist. Who in turn referred me to a physio for treatment. It took several months before it settled down, and I was told not to accept any compensation till it did. I ended up with a few thousand but also a recurring back problem . Our dash cams are behind and slightly to the left of the rear view mirror. Don’t ask me about electrics. Bob did the wiring
Its the usual dull morning here in France. It is usually 10 or 11 before it clears, yesterday it was later.Temperatures start about 18 degrees and finish at about 28-30 C. The garden tidying that has to be done will be done when various bits of garden go in to shade or first thing in the morning. Yves had cut the grass and a few other jobs but he is no gardener and the flowers need attention as does the flowering hedge. The lawn is baked and my strawberry trough has melted and given way in the heat. There is little fruit on the trees despite lots of blossom in the Spring. Otherwise all is good.Yesterday I swept and vacuumed through to remove flies and spiders webs. Today I need to wash some voile curtains which are full of webs and dead flies. Otherwise I have no plans if it ends up too hot to garden Have a good day all

The insurance company's nominated solicitor has emailed, we are both to be examined by their 'medical facility'. Bruises are starting to show on P, and we both still ache.
Our ears are still 'ringing' a bit too, 3 airbags going off in the confines of the Yeti creates a lot of pressure and noise.
This one on P's leg is the current winner, I think the airbags contributed to a lot of the bruises. Our ears are still 'ringing' a bit too, 3 airbags going off in the confines of the Yeti creates a lot of pressure and noise.

Hard luck P, that's a nasty bruise. Think Arnica and Comfrey, natural and they still work.
Off to the Co-op now....

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I have been told it's quite painful, I seem to have got away with much less physical signs of bruises. Initially mine were neck and shoulders aching but wrists and knees are the main issue now. I got some co cocodamol from my GP which eases it during the day, I can't take it at night as codeine gives me hallucinations

Tiger Balm was considered (we still have a tin of that) but the skin is broken in places so it's not advisable.

Rather grey at the moment but blue and HEAT forecast. No rain forecast in the foreseeable future, bad news as our water butts will soon empty trying to keep the few plants that we have left, alive

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
It's been a busy morning, my insurance 'kicked off' the injury claim process. We've had medical assessments and physiotherapy appointments set up now.
I've had a 'total loss' offer made on the car, which I've rejected as it's less than buying a replacement from autotrader. We'll see what they come back with.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Best of luck with it all Kev, I'm so glad I don't have all that hassle to go through on top of the physical effects of the incident. Give my love to P please.....
I shall be aiming for the shed this morning after I have put my chicken in to roast. My walk after second sleep will include the Well pharmacy as I have had a text to say that my prescription is ready. I hope that this time they have got it right after all the hassle!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
I hope you get the car issue resolved soon Kev, its good to stick out for the claim as second hand cars have really gone up in price, driven by the difficulty of getting new ones.
We had a relatively cool cloudy day yesterday, hitting about 23/24C it did not feel like that with no sun around and a misty rain in the air. It was 7.30 pm before the sun appeared leaving us with a very pleasant evening. We managed garden tidying most of the day and things are already looking better. I did some clothes washing that took ages to dry and washed a sleeping bag and 3 pairs of voile curtains that looked very drab indeed. One pair, the ones constantly exposed to the sun disintegrated. I had a new pair lurking in my bedding box, originally bought for my art room but not yet used. When the others were dry they still looked drab compared to the new ones. I can’t complain, I bought them from a little shop in Bury and put them up about 17 years ago. Whilst there were no curtains at the windows I washed the frames down. Once the wisteria was also cut away from the window outside it all looked nice and clean and tidy .
We were very pleased with ourselves after our days jobs were completed and enjoyed our evening meal and a glass of wine or two sat in the garden. This morning is the market at our local town. We are on the look out for cheap, bulk, soft fruits to freeze as we will have no crop this year. In fact even my potatoes have failed miserably. I planted 3 rows, usually plenty to see us and guests through the summer. I managed just enough for our tea from one full row !
Its going to be a warm day, i have just a few gardening plans, otherwise we shall just enjoy the day. Have a good one everyone.,

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Just one pic, for the others go to shed matters....
My primary focus was to strip the steam cylinder end of the pump down and address the faults in the fitting. One of them was the crankshaft I made out of solid, it needed 10 thou taking off one web..... Then I spent the rest of the time addressing the two standards which needed improving and easing. In the process of doing these clear tasks I wanted to get it clear in my head how the pump can work when the rods for the steam cylinders and the pump bores are all working in fixed planes and there had to be a way of allowing the oscillation produced by the crank pins to be absorbed. I think I have cracked it, it's a version of the Scotch yoke mechanism that uses die blocks captured in yokes to convert the motion. If you want more detail go to Google and do a search for 'Scotch Yoke motion' and try to get your head round it.
You can see from the last pic where I finished, I shan't know how much good I have done until I build it up again. All I can say is that it is better than it was this morning.....
Now for breakfast and second sleep. Nice to be back in the shed even though it is such a puzzle!

Lawn kindly cut by our neighbour prior to our arrival. The view is our pizza oven and BBQ built by Bob and the chairs indicate recent use watching the food cook, accompanied by another glass of wine the plant sticking up is a begonia , I have never seen one so big !

David, if I took cuttings like that they would die.....
Today I shall be in the shed playing with my castings. I say that because that is exactly what I am doing, there is no way this will ever finish up as a working model of a fire pump but it will make a nice ornament! Then second sleep and a walk and at some point putting the chicken in the oven to roast..... It's all go!
Waiting for word from Oz as to whether Margaret is still coming in a week. Katie has to go into hospital for gall bladder removal. I should know today.....
Later at 06:25.... the shed has taken a knock already as I have just spent time getting my chicken ready for the oven. Now I am having a spell of doing nothing before I go in and address the pump. I'll admit to a certain lack of enthusiasm and drive!
