Well done Gloria, I have one like this and they are very effective. The handle acts as a slide hammer to drive the jaws down each side of the nail head.

If it's the pen, it's a glass fibre tipped one used for cleaning, Can be used on metal or on electrical contacts, flux cleaning from pcb's etc
