Next year I'll be looking for a zero standing charge option (if they are still a thing) since I;m not planning on using any gas. All things being equal its irrelevant when all my tariff is electricity only.
I had to look again at the unit price, Eon's app calculates at 14p per kwH but there's a 4p per kwH reduction when I'm billed

I can't make any useful contribution to this debate as I am at present waiting for a response from British Gas to my complaint which I sent on December 3. They only charged me £27 on my last account and made no mention of electricity. They couldn't run a piss up in a brewery. My next port of call is the Money Programme.... This has been going on for 14 months.....

It might be worth trying Resolver Stanley, it has been helpful for us on a number of occasions.

I'll second that, I had a response within two days when I used it to complain about Hermes.

I have sent a complaint using their website. Thanks for the advice.
Two hours later..... I went to bed for second sleep after taking your advice and slept like a baby. One of my complaints about BG is that they have given me sleepless nights because of worry. :biggrin2:

Thanks to Wendy and Kev. British Gas has responded to the Resolver intervention straight away by giving the complaint a case number and promising a response within five days. This is more than they did with my two complaints, the latest of which was on December 3rd. I await developments with interest.

Cold day - demand is high 44GW.
Solar 1.4 %
Wind 2.6 %
Coal 2.9 %

Gas 56%
Nuclear 13%

I read that Government policy is to build lots of onshore wind generators. What difference would they make today?

We're saved. . . Mustn't use our own coal though.

What a shame we don't have a potentially huge supply of gas available, and politicians whose horizon extends beyond the next election.

I think the time has come to indemnify those who might be affected, and have another crack at fracking.

PS we're getting about 10% from the various interconnecters. I'm sure they are all letting us have it at a neighbourly good price.

Dream on David (But I'm sure you knew this....) Today's spot price for leccy on the market is the highest it has ever been per megawatt hour. What was costing £50 a few years ago is now heading for £1000.
Who was it exactly who told us the market was the best regulator?

Re my Resolver action against BG. BG have sent me a bunch of confused mails one of which referred to the complaint I made 8 weeks ago and full of the usual guff. However that mail did include the magic phrase allowing me to go to the Ombudsman so I have authorised Resolver to do that. My Resolver case has been referred and is now in the Ombudman's hands. God knows whether this is an improvement.....

LBC News just said that they have been stood down - as the output fom Nuclear (13%) and wind (2.6%) is taking the burden.
Those seem to be broadly the same numbers as when they decided to fire up the coal fired assets.

I think that's called 'spin'. - or even possibly 'fake news'.

I hope so Kev. At least I appear to have initiated some movement. But as yet, not a word of explanation.

We moved from Eon to Octopus a couple of weeks back as Eon were impossible to contact and were sitting on over £600 of our money. What a difference already, meter readings going in no problem, accurate statements and easy to contact. It did mean yet another attempt at a Smart meter installation this morning though. Different meter, optimistic engineer but the chances of it getting a signal remain slim.
Sorry Ian, we did the £50 deal with our neighbours across the way.

Thanks to both of you. I shall be doing the deal with Ian as soon as this is resolved. As Kev said, it's a big beast to move but I appear to be getting somewhere now. I shall continue to be patient.

But I suspect we are a long way off at the moment. I am conducting an email battle at the moment with British Gas. Resolver appears to have stirred a hornet's nest but the problem is none of the people mailing me is speaking to colleagues and none really knows what my Complaint is. I was even told this morning that it is resolved! We'll see about that!

Didn't "they" tell us that an increase in typhoons and hurricanes was a symptom of Global Warming / Climate Change?

File it under Daily Express weather forecasts David and ignore it. Even if they are right we can't do anything about it!
Have just sent a satisfying email to British Gas making my complaint absolutely clear. Not even sure the mail is read but I still feel better for having written it and having it on file.
