Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
The nurse's and ambulance strikes are going ahead and the only response from the government is to appeal for second thoughts and in some cases accuse the strikers of helping Putin's policies of eroding European standards of living. Thankfully the latter ploy seems to have quietened down but I thought at the time that this was typical of the politicians, try to shift the blame and embarrass the strikers.
We saw a prime example of that yesterday as Mick Flynn was asked repeatedly when being interviewed by the BBC for the news whether he realised he was using the public as a weapon by hitting their travel arrangements at the holiday season. This is a cheap shot, any striker can be accused of holding the public hostage just as the politicians can be accused of 'weaponising' the withdrawal of services from the public in their arguments against the strikes.
All this while people like Mick Flynn repeatedly accuse the government of not being willing to discuss the issues the unions have, only the dire consequences of their actions.
The bald truth is that after decades of low pay and worsening conditions the workers have finally had enough. That's what the politicians have to grasp.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
News this morning that my sister (13 months younger than me) is in hospital seriously ill. Inevitable I suppose and nobody is panicking but it makes me sad and more aware I have to look after myself!

Sorry to hear that Stanley. I know how it feels after my brothers death a year ago. It hits hard

Don't look now, but this is what we used to call genetic modification. The great devil of not too long ago. Looks a whole lot different with a different spin calling it a "feat of biological enginnerimg"

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Susan and I had a very good conversation about Dorothy's hospitalisation yesterday. It's not upsetting me too much because I realise that it is only nature working itself out. I live with the same chance of termination. No point in making a drama of it....

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
No its not because the genetic makeup of the individual is not permanently changed and the change cannot be inherited because it does not affect eggs or sperm. It is also not a permanent change . Reading through it says after the treatment a bone marrow transplant was carried out to provide more T cells that the body could then use. As I understand it the modified ones would have died out naturally so not a permanent change. Bone marrow transplant indeed any transplant is a fairly established technique . It too is not genetic engineering.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
A definition…
genetically modified organism (GMO), organism whose genome has been engineered in the laboratory in order to favour the expression of desired physiological traits or the generation of desired biological products. In conventional livestock production, crop farming, and even pet breeding, it has long been the practice to breed select individuals of a species in order to produce offspring that have desirable traits. In genetic modification, however, recombinant genetic technologies are employed to produce organisms whose genomes have been precisely altered at the molecular level, usually by the inclusion of genes from unrelated species of organisms that code for traits that would not be obtained easily through conventional selective breeding.
The girls genome has not been altered, it has temporarily been added to . Any gametes ie eggs she produces will be exactly as they were before treatment .

I've replied twice then thought better of it and deleted. I don't like PR articles for medical 'cures'

This should be a great benefit for some people...
`The 'life-changing' electric suit' BBC short video
`A special body suit for people with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and strokes has had some remarkable results. The Mollii suit sends electrical stimulation to muscles which can reduce pain and make movement easier.'

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
This looks like an extension of the TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) TENS . This was offered to my brother who had nerve damage to his legs. A marginal improvement.
The electrical impulses can reduce the pain signals going to the spinal cord and brain, which may help relieve pain and relax muscles. They may also stimulate the production of endorphins, which are the body's natural painkillers.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Daughter Margaret had a TENS device for a while. I think it helped her with nerve pains in her face after an operation on her ear.

I've 'bitten the bullet' and am currently in the urgent treatment centre with Burnley's finest. The rib has decided to give me some proper pain. I'm currently a grumpy old git.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
We know that but how's your ribs?
Urgent care car parking. I parked in the car park near the Urgent care but way down on the left . All the other spaces were taken up £1 90, for 3 hours or just throw a couple of £s at it, You'll probably have to feed it again whether or not.
Take care not to laugh.

Middle offspring drove me here, unfortunately I'm not in a position to drive. It took me several minutes to, very slowly, make my way down the stairsplaques wrote: ↑14 Dec 2022, 11:41We know that but how's your ribs?

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I think it depends what the problem is. I assume they will be shoving you in some kind of see inside you machine to get a definitive. No doubt they will be finding out.
