Morning

And another very cold day today. We are off to Bacup market this morning as I want some meat for tomorrow night. We will probably boynour Saturday stuff too as we are going to Coventry for the day on Saturday. We ned some mince as we have invited Wendy and Keith for an Italian meal on Thursday evening as they can’t join us for our weekly meal out on Friday.

I didn’t manage to phone the doctors yesterday as the phone was playing up, now sorted, but I did send an online message to the surgery explaining the problem . I was amazed to get a reply within 5 minutes saying that Dr Alam in on leave this week and to try again on Monday. Then I did battle trying to get a dental appointment as a filling has come out from the back of one of my front teeth. I was too late for an emergency appointment and to phone today. Well it will be tomorrow as I have an online art workshop from noon with Jeremy Ford.

Last nights meal was good fun though perhaps a little too much wine was consumed ( so my head tells me) . Taira, our teacher could not join us as she had caught a gastric bug from her kids. so we are planning a bit of a party in class next Tuesday.

Meanwhile second attempt Santa is coming along well though not without hiccups. Three pieces done and joined, only 4 to go.
Have a good day

Good luck with Santa! (He's certainly looking good!) Yes it is an iron frost, probably close to -7C and including wind chill perhaps -9C in Barlick later today. But a change is coming! Hang in there, 8C promised after Friday.....

To err is human; to forgive, divine. You are forgiven Sue :biggrin2: .
I shall start the day by marking the positions of the stud holes using the dividing head on Johnny's 1927 lathe. Then I shall put witness marks on the castings and lids so they are oriented properly. It's important that this is accurate. Later a walk I thing and a bit of light veggie shopping. I don't think I'll bother with a sit because it's another cold day, -9C here at the moment.

A nice hour in the shed using the 1927 lathe. Always a pleasure. I am ready to put the witness marks on the lids and castings that will ensure proper orientation on erecting.....

Morning

I see it is -7 C outside, and at the moment quite cool inside as the central heating has only just kicked in. There is a beautiful sunrise forming over the hills towards Saddleworth moor. It promises another cold sunny day. The snow is still on the ground but now solid ice and a bit treacherous when I go out to feed the birds .

This morning I need to see if I can get a dental appointment as I have lost a filling. What happens then depends on wether I get an appointment, possibly pilates at 10.00. Our friend Kath is coming this afternoon for a cuppa and to cut Bob’s hair. Then I shall make a lasagne for this evening when Wendy and Keith come. Hopefully I will get another part of Santa sewn.

Have a good day all.

We are luckier than you Sue because we haven't had any snow.... Be careful, this would be the worst time to have a fall ever!

Morning

Another -5 degrees start. This morning we are off to Bacup market as tomorrow we are going to Coventry for the day to see Julia and family and deliver Christmas presents. From the market we are heading over to the sewing centre at Oswaldtwistle Mills to top up on some basic sewing supplies, then its over to Hollingworth like for our Friday lunch, by ourselves this week.

Back home I will do some Santa sewing. Bob is out this evening to the Model Engineers.

Have a good day.

Enjoy the day Sue. The good news is that after a couple of wet days it is going to get a lot warmer.
I've just got back after shopping and put it all way....

I have retrieved the mistake and now I have a front lid fitted with its gland and ready for fitting.
I hope you get the same result with Santa! :biggrin2:

Cooking for our "friends round Friday" get together tonight. I have bread to bake which will be small cob loaves, a ham to roast and some baby potatoes to roast that will be crushed and mated with garlic and a bit of cheese. Sally is making a quiche, apart from the eggs she has not decided on the filling yet, base is already blind baked. My turn now to knock my dough together.

Sounds good. We had a good evening with our friends yesterday. It must be nearly 4 years since we entertained at home.

Not feeling well today, we both seem to have a cold. So far covid negative, but I do feel yuk , more so than a simple cold

There's quite a nasty cold doing the rounds at the moment, I think we got of lightly with just very bunged up noses, headache and tiredness. It lasted about a week.

I concur with Kev regarding the present cold virus going round, our Jack was off work with it for a couple of days at the start of the week, he says it has taken a few more days to shake it off. I hope you too can shake it off Sue.

I have made my small (mini Hovis sized) cob loaves quite a few times in the past and they always come out OK. This batch cooked for friends are rather "well done", not altered anything but I reckon I will have to take the tops off a few of them. They are normally sliced up so I don't think it will make a lot of difference.

My anti-social habits seem to be standing me in good stead. Touch wood, no coughing in the stable!
I shall be in the shed for an hour and at the same time warming the kitchen by roasting my chicken. From the look of the weather I might scrub going for a walk..... :biggrin2:

Morning

No coughing here Stanley either :laugh5: Just a very runny nose, sneezing, weak shaky legs and a touch of the runs. I did a covid test as the symptoms seemed unlike a simple cold. I have however had a solid nights sleep and will review going with Bob to Coventry after breakfast. I will do another test too. Bob seems to have shrugged this off after 24 hours and as he has had covid andI haven’t I am just left wondering.

So yesterday afternoon, after our lunch out ( which I struggled to finish) consisted of going back to bed for an hour and then dozing in front of the fire. I got my supplies from the sewing centre and it cost an arm and a leg but should see me alright for some time.

It snowed a bit last night but the road is clear. Its -1 C which is an improvement.

Have a good day all

I share your suspicion Sue about the relationship between the current 'common colds' and Covid even if you test negative. They are different. Like any other virus they mutate and I remember noting a few years ago before Covid that the common cold was much more likely to recur just when you thought you had shaken it off. But what the hell do I know.... No snow/rain here yet either Sue but I am sure it's coming....

Image

Only one image this morning. I drilled the lugs on the two base castings 3/16" which is clearance for 2BA and big enough for the screws that will hold the engine down on the wooden base. Then I tapped two of the holes on the bed and fitted the 2BA studs. I have marked the two holes at the other end with a transfer punch and am sure they are correct. I know where I am starting tomorrow! The chicken is in the oven and will be cooked by the time I get up from second sleep!

We get a lot of chickens wandering about here, there was excitement a couple of weeks ago when half a dozen cows were on the pub car park.
