That's why I use the Sistema noodle pots.... They are so easy to manage wherever you are. (And less washing up as well....)

We too have a Dreamland electric blanket. It works but not in the way I'd expected it to do. At least it heats the bed but it's either too hot or too cold, never in between.
Forgive me copying my own post but Mrs Tiz says I should have told you the full story of our Dreamland electric blanket. Here we go. We ordered a standard double bed size one from John Lewis. When it arrived and we opened the delivery wrapping we saw that it said King Size on the box. But when we turned the box over it said Double Size. The obvious way to find out which it really was would be to open the box. But then if it was King Size would JL refuse to accept it back because the box had been opened? So we phoned JL and asked them first. They said open the box and see. So we did and it was King Size. Phoned JL again and told them. Their answer? King Size is more expensive but it doesn't matter, we'll let you keep it, it will cover more of your bed! That brought a sharp retort from this end (it would have hung over the sides of the bed) and they finally agreed to us returning it for a replacement. And that one was a Standard Size, thank goodness. But what a palava!

Peter, you were lucky there was a telephone number and even more fortunate that someone was there to answer it! Such niceties seem to be a service too far for most organisations these days...

Christmas almost on us. Still wondering what treat to get for myself. A sports watch that rings 999 when you black out. The latest whiz bang mobile phone that you can actually make phone calls on. The latest games box which you can slow down and even plug your hearing aids into,

I afraid none of the above. but where to buy the cheapest paracetamol or pain reduction cream (Voltarol or Ibuprofen) such is life.

My latest treat was six pairs of soft top socks......Conspicuous consumption!

On another matter.... It struck me this morning whilst thinking about the cost of energy and what happens later next year that this government is is the 'living in hope' administration. Hoping the price of energy falls and that the strikers go back to work without a decent offer.
Booze-ups in breweries come to mind.

I almost started a new thread " Has the world gone mad or is it me?" but this one will do.

I learn tonight that there is such a thing as Tanqueray Alcohol Free Gin Think about it for a moment. It's between £14 and £17 per bottle. Said to have 'distilled botanicals'.

Ironically they won't let you into the website unless you declare that you are over 18 years old.

The sad fact is David that sad gits out there with more money than sense will buy it.
When I was in the chemists on Thursday I thought I'd top up on Ibuprofen. I changed my mind when they said they were over £6 for 32! 65p for 16 in shambles and about the same at the Co-op. They didn't appreciate me telling them that. Do they think we are fools?

I tripped over this this morning and thought it was worth remembering in view of the fact some fools are talking about bringing the buffoon back for a second crack at being PM.

David, Matthew Engels got back to me today. here's the answer to your question.
Stanley: Sorry for slow reply. Got a bit behind. Please tell your mate. Short answer: No. [SG note: the question was whether he was related to Fred Engel.]
Long answer:
1. Engel is a fairly common name across northern and central Europe. A hell of a lot in the US, especially in the midwest. Even dozens called Matthew Engel. I used to get Google alerts saying I'd been arrested again in Minnesota.
2. Friedrich Engels never married or apparently had children (though he did put it about a lot). Engels with an -s is much less common.
3. A cousin of mine traced back my father's family to a poor village in Poland circa 1800. Fred was German from a family of rich industrialists.
Forward with the people!
Best, Matthew

Thanks for that - and credit to Matthew for responding. I ran into similar problems when I dug a bit deeper into the name Schwab.

I don't make too much of a fuss about it these days, but I've managed to reach another birthday.

Here is the official portrait.

I get congratulated on not dying as I'm considered old at nearly 62. Gotta love kids.

Thanks for the good wishes. I've just been sent a better picture so I've changed it. It was a struggle to get it from a phone and resized to my computer. I'm quite proud of achieving the process.

It's still a wry smile I think - all my smiles are wry with my bottom teeth!

Sadly the wine is either Coca Cola or Diet Lemonade depending on which photo.

That's a good photo with a slightly more wry smile! Is wryer a word? :laugh5: What looked like a glass of red wine on the work top has now turned into Coca
Cola and disappeared.
Cheers Tripps! :good:
