I shall be in the shed as usual christening my new vise jaws as I make a clevis for my valve rod. After second sleep i shall be picked up my Muthomi and taken down to Earby where we are having a Xmas dinner as everyone was away on the day. It will be nice to see the kids but I shan't stay long. Far too exciting for me!

I christened the vice jaws when I swapped the slitting saw for a 5/32" one. Then quiet careful work making the clevis for the valve rod. I am ready now to make the valve rod and fit the clevis to it. A nice quiet morning.....

Morning

Happy New Year all. A very quiet Eve for us. I was in bed just after 9.00 as my restless leg was bad. I read a bit, dozed a bit and got back up at 11.30 to join Bob who was reading in the lounge. What rubbish there was on TV. We abandoned waiting for midnight, went back to bed to read, watched the fireworks which for some reason started 10 minutes early, switched off the lights and went to sleep, waking a few minutes ago.

We quickly got the house back in order but it was a long haul of washing and drying bedding and towels. My washer has been labouring on for weeks but has decided to die. It is the bearings again. The engineer will come out on the 11 th so it will be hand washing and laundrette for a bit. It still works so will try small loads but I don’t give it more than a few uses before it stops altogether.

We had a short walk to the EVRI shop to return Bs Christmas slippers which were too small ( now replaced) . We got rather damp. The label on the slippers however was rejected by the shop. Of course Amazon has no way of discussing this with us, their standard queries do not cover the situation. I bet we end up paying to return the parcel. I think the walk and the washing etc really tired me out.

Today the tea rooms at Healey Dell are having a 40s day, 11-3.00. We have booked in for brunch at 10.30 , so provided it is not too wet we may hang around a bit or have another stroll to the waterfalls. Otherwise it will be a quiet day. I may start a jigsaw, we still have one from last year to do .

Enjoy your lunch Stanley, have a good day all.

I'm looking forwards to it Sue. Off to bed now to charge my batteries up before dealing with Kahara and Lily! As for your waterfalls, our forecast is for heavy showers at any time during the day... Best of luck.
If I haven't already said it to you, happy new year and many of them.... :biggrin2:

Lovely brunch, lovely walk. Sun is out, blue skies. If you don’t know Healey Dell its well worth the walk, especially to see the waterfalls after lots of rain. The Tea rooms are open Thursday to Sunday and Bank holidays . Walks may be short or long depending on preference and our own chez nous can provide tea for friends too only 1000 metres way :laugh5:

Lots of water about Sue.

My old mate Peter Tatham did a lot of repairs on the viaduct in 1984. I thought you might like to be reminded of it.
I shall be in the shed for an hour and hopefully get a walk in today as we are promised it will stay dry but cold.

Today was carefully finishing the valve rod. Very small work and so I checked everything three times... But after an hour in the shed the rod is finished and perfect. I am ready to make the valve now and fit it.

Morning

1984, Stanley, my first year working at Bury College. How time flies. Yes there was a lot of water about yesterday in the falls. More than I can remember. The day itself was very pleasant, quite a lot of sun and the wind had gone. There was a fine drizzle in the air on our walk but nothing to bother us. The paths were muddy with huge puddles. I spent the afternoon jigsawing, went to bed at my normal time and woke at my normal time, improvement at last, though I still have a thick head.

Today is due to be dry and sunnyish. The dawn is already shaping up over the hills. Bob is going to take the opportunity to take the outside lights down and we will remove the decorations and hoover round. Another year over as they say. Just two weeks to our annual trip to the Lakes so we may try to get another walk in today. I want to get some stamina back before then and the fresh air helps to clear my head .

So that will be today, have a good one

I shall be in the shed as usual working on my engine castings. I am not even thinking about a walk because we are promised rain all day starting while I am in the shed. Susan is coming this afternoon for a visit and to check on my feet. Such a good woman!

Upon reflection it became obvious that before I start fitting the slide valve it was best to finish all the drilling and tapping necessary to enable the cylinder to be fitted. So that's what you are looking at here. I have fitted all the studs for the back lid and opened up the clearance holes in the lid to make it an easy fit. All is good, tomorrow I'll attack the front lid.

Morning

Ah well life returns to normal, starting with trying to get a dental appointment for the tooth I broke before Christmas, followed by chasing up the Speech Therapist appointment that has not arrived after 7 weeks. Bob has a GP appointment this afternoon for respiratory tests to check there is nothing sinister about his long standing cough and pilates and yoga are cancelled as the teacher has vertigo. Thus the scene is set for 2023 :laugh5:

I don’t actually have any other plans for the day , I may have a root through my fabric stash and see if there is anything I can make . I have some fabric lurking somewhere for some pilates leggings .

I shall take the day as it comes . Have a good day all

The main element of today is the heavy rain. It came in on time and I fear will mean that a walk is out of the question....

Today we took Ruby over to Harrogate to hand her back. She is back in school tomorrow. Laura and Adam were at the Majestic Hotel where we met them and had a brew etc. Called at Harrogate B&Q on the way back to but anew curtain pole for our bedroom which managed to get broken during the grand children's stay! I fitted that earlier this afternoon so all back to normal. Sally is pottering, thinning out the Christmas decs.

Cancer support meeting this evening so I will have to pop round to the centre and put the heating on shortly and get a drop of milk for the brews.

We binged both episodes of Silent Witness last night. Second episode is on tonight.

I shall be in the shed as usual but Like yesterday the forecast is for wall to wall rain so a walk looks doubtful. There are a couple of housekeeping tasks that could substitute for outdoors exercise!

Morning

Well it never really got light yesterday. I found my fabric and made my pilates leggings, which kept me busy till 5.30pm , plus a bit of jigsaw. I also did some research online. One of my sewing machines that does a particular type of hemming ( like a T shirt) has been upgraded and there is a new version that has removed some of the problems that it had. It could be very temperamental. Anyway, I fancy upgrading and after looking on the internet found that Hobkirks in Blackburn do a trade in. So today I shall give my machine a jolly good clean and polish to get as much trade in money as I can. I also want to go to the wool shop in Heywood, I fancy knitting myself a jumper. I find these dark days and evenings so long I need to do something.

Have a good day all, I may do an online pilates this evening, to try and get back in to it. Its been a few weeks.

Morning Sue.... Don't get guilty about not doing Pilates as much as previously, there are probably very good reasons. I keep nagging myself about my exercise, my walk but the weather recently has militated against me. I get and hour of light exercise in the shed. You're very good at finding things to do, so don't worry too much.
I am off to bed now, does that count as exercise?

I shall be chasing my engine for an hour in the shed and then putting in my meat order before going for second sleep. Then I have Diabetes Clinic after lunch. It is a bit of a triumph to have remembered it and got all the evidence they ask for in order. BP readings for a week, water sample and wear a shirt that allows access for Dracula to get at my arm. (Then there is making sure my feet are ready for foot inspection....) It's all go!

Looking at where I am I have decided the next place to concentrate my efforts is on the bed, the cross head slide and the pedestal bearings. The deceptively simple job of making the guides for the cross head slide bed has taken most of the time. I have 3 of the dimensions machined, tomorrow I shall do the other two and the fitting.

Morning

No guilt about not doing pilates Stanley, more a concern about wether I could manage it. I did. It was a strenuous session with Paula, but quite enjoyable. I shall do another session on zoom this morning and that will be enough for this week. I think I am just about recovered though my ear still buzzes a little. Its taken 3 weeks.

This afternoon I am taking my sewing machine to Blackburn and shall have a demo of the new machine. I was not impressed by what they may offer part exchange so unless they can double their offer I may not buy. I looked on ebay and my old machine does sell at three to four times Hobkirks offer, but of course the problem is sending the machine to any buyer, and BUYER COLLECTS always limit your sale. A lot to think about. My machine is immaculate and certainly worth more than £100, they will probably sell it as preowned at £450+ as that seems to be the going price. Anyway it's an outing…..

I bought my wool and started my knitting so no doubt I will be doing some of that too today and I think we may finish the jigsaw, as there is not much more to do . Have a good day all
