Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I shall be in the shed for an hour as usual and off for my weekly shop at the Co-op at 07:00. I am hoping that the ice underfoot is mostly gone and slightly better that has been the weather this week!
I shall take the rest of the day as it comes..... I may cook veggies this morning to prepare for next week.

The pavements in Barlick were still very icy yesterday afternoon when Sally and I returned from our walk. Take care!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
They are still terrible Wendy but I had to get my shopping so I have been and am back in the warm I've just finished putting it away. I shall be veggie cooking later as there is no chance of it improving underfoot.....

I was worried about you attempting the steps into the car park!
Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
Yes still have very icy patches here. We went to Kendal yesterday to Lakeland and the art shop. In places it was treacherous in the town centre, worse than here in Langdale. We need to go back this morning as the art shop was shut, being Thursday.
We have no plans for this afternoon. Wendy, Keith, Barbara and Bill are coming up and staying over ,and this evening Mike (our old art teacher at Haslingden) and his wife Janet are coming over from Levens and we are having a meal together in the restaurant here.
Have a good day all

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Not easy but thankfully no ice on them. Glad to be back in and ready for some veggie shopping later this morning.

More progress on the crank pin brass. It is ready now for fitting and getting a con rod. I have made and fitted the oil reservoir and its plug. A nice bit of knurling for David....
Just seen your post Sue. Very treacherous underfoot here and the sooner it thaws the better!

Stanley, do the supermarkets there do ‘home delivery’?
Ours do, if your order is over $50.00.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Yes Cathy but I like to choose my own veggies and it does me good to do my own shopping. The problem this morning wasn't the shopping but the weather.
Yes I know, I'm a stubborn old bugger! That's why I am still doing my own housework and cooking and looking after myself....
I'm back up after two hours second sleep and after I have had a sit and a cup of tea I shall start veggie cooking.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Fair enough Stanley
I get the bulk of my shopping delivered but still go out to pick my fruit and veg, and a few light bits and pieces. I use a shopping buggy.

I think I know you well enough to say this without causing offence.

Are the flags still icy in the afternoon? Would it matter if the 'routine' was altered in the interests of personal safety?

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
We have had deliveries for years, ever since Bob and I had debilitating operations within a few months of each other a d we were both told not to carry. We go to the local market on a Saturday morning though for meat and some veg. Basics like potatoes and onions come on our order. In fact anything that is heavy or reliably good quality. I hate shopping at a supermarket itself. I don’t like big shops and crowds. In France we shop when most people do not ie between 1.30 and 3.00 pm .

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Friday veggie buying and cooking is a major part of my week's routine and I have just finished, all the pans are either gull of cooked veggies or put away. As soon as the veggies have cooled a bit they will be in the fridge.
Not even considered a walk, the packed snow and ice in the street are as bad as they've been all week but I expect a thaw shortly.....

Today I shall put my chicken in the small oven to roast before I go into the shed and spend a quiet hour working on mu connecting rod and crank pin bearing.
The back street is still frozen hard packed ice. Time it went away! Forget exercise while it is this dangerous.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I spent this morning finding a piece of scrap to make the connecting rod out of. The first piece I found had a hard shop in it and was unusable so I wasted half an hour. I'm ready to start actually making the con rod tomorrow. (These things happen....)

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
In case you're wondering, the piece of material Stuarts supplied for the Con rod was too small for the maximum size crank pin brass I favour. That's why I was in the scrap bin! I shall carry on turning the rod and might even consider a walk today as we could be about to see the ice go from the back street!
I shall have to get ready for the meter fitters who come tomorrow. Clear the meter cupboard out in the front room!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I started by doing my measurements and a fag packet drawing and then started to reduce the stock to a con-rod blank. There was a lot of metal to take off and I did not push matters. I took a lot out of it and cleaned up afterwards so I have a clean start tomorrow. There is no rush and I don't want any mistakes.... A nice hour in the shed.

Morning
It seems I did not write yesterday. We had a lovely meal at the restaurant. It was really nice seeing Mike and Janet Out other friends stayed over, and our morning was different. Barbara and Bill slept in the pull down bed in the lounge so there was no morning cuppa till hey were up. Once all up it was breakfast, then Barbara and I went for a swim. Afterwards we all went to Coniston where we had a short walk and lunch. The sun came out at last and Bill took the opportunity to take photos. He is an amateur photographer. Back at the lodge it was an afternoon of chatting and watching the birds on the bird feeder that we had put out during the week. At one time there were about 20 tits of ll types, including a long tailed tit that I had never seen before. They left at 4.00. Bob and I were really tired and came to bed early and slept like logs.
Having done most of the packing and tidying last evening, we shall pack the car and go for a cooked breakfast in the cafe across the road. We have to be out by 10.00, then its homeward bound, by the scenic route.
We have had a good week, an excellent week in fact and I at last feel fully recovered. Its taken 5 weeks
Have a good day all

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I had a couple of small jobs to do to get ready for the meter-fitters who are coming tomorrow between 10:00 and 13:00 to fit two new smart meters and commission them. I made sure the meter cupboard in the front room was clear and also tested the stove for draught in case it is needed by lighting a small paper fire in it. It tested OK. (They will be cutting both leccy and gas at times and both of them mean no heat. I don't want to be caught out!)
Sooner they have been and got the job done the better.
Funny isn't it that six months of requests from me had no effect but as soon as I get Resolve involved I get two fitters immediately and two new meters. God knows what will happen in three weeks when the Ombudsman starts licking their arses!
