Sue, one of the family history regulars in Colne Library was telling me about her Salterforth/Rochdale Widdup ancestors the other week. She is called Pauline and has been involved in research through the LFHHS for many years, have you come across each other?

One Guy is ace when it comes to cooperation.... You have a nice day mapped out Sue and the weather looks good.

Image

I started by checking I had room for the nuts on the strap and then split it. I did this by hand. I usually do it with a slitting saw because I don't trust my eyes but this morning wanted a finer cut and so did it with a Junior Hacksaw. Then I installed the nots and bolts and tightened them. Next I cleaned both sides using emery paper on the surface plate. Next I measured the eccentric and set strap up under the boring head. I shall bore it tomorrow.
I have done my early doors shopping at the Co-op and put everything away. now for breakfast......

Just wasted ten minutes because I had it in my mind that our late member Bodger was connected with Heptonstall.

Turns out it was actually Hepworth.

I find this for Heptonstall.

which looks to be a remarkable village.

Here's a tip - If you find a video which is interesting - make a copy of it. Don't assume it will be on Youtube for ever. I learned the hard way. (Video removed due to copyright issues by LDS). I use Freecam which I find fairly straightforward.

Thanks for saying that. I've thought recently that I'd been straying too far 'off piste' and being a bit self indul;gent. Nice to have such a comment.

I hope you don't mind David but I embedded the videos using the right tool in the editor. For video clips it's the one next to the right hand side that looks like a play button. It shows a preview which is a bit better than just a link.

Yes - no problem Ian. I knew that - but when I think I'm being a self indulgent and feeling a bit guilty in posting a video - I just put in the link rather than the preview screen. It's a bit of a 'please yourself' rather than a 'you must look at this'. It also takes up less space on the page.

Does that make sense. I doubt it. . . .

I know exactly what you mean. I've been trying to get my bit of self indulgence into a post for some time now. So without a feed in line I'll put this up. Hollies.

Vey good - and they can't touch you for it. I needed the subtitles though. Someone in the 'comments' said it was the first time he had seen and understood the lyrics. Are they well known these 'Hollies' ? I think they might do OK.

Ken, I really enjoyed that , please indulge yourself more often. I've never heard it before.
I shan't be having a funeral David, just a memorial steaming of my old engine at Bancroft. I'd love to be able to see who turns up. (Many of the more interesting people will be AWOL due to different continents or died before me....)
As for today, after putting my chicken in the oven with its accompanying goodies for its Four Hour Roast I shall be quietly and carefully pursuing my eccentric strap. Boring this morning, :biggrin2: . Then after second sleep I shall be cooking veggies for next week's meals. That should take care of most of the day.

Morning

We had a lovely afternoon yesterday, apart from a 40 minute wait to get through road works at the junction of the Heptonstall road with the Hebden Bridge road, but my American ( and Burnley ) cousins said it was all worthwhile. After the walk round, and rather a lot of photo opportunities we drove over Widdop Moor to the Packhorse inn, with more photos and a meal there. They thought the scenery magnificent…which of course it is😊. The pub was selling mugs with the word Widdop on, several were bought for relatives back in America/Burnley. It was 8.30 pm before we got back to Burnley and 9.00 pm before we got home.

This morning is Bacup market, then a trip to the garden centre to try to buy some fuchsia plants for some empty pots in the garden. I rearranged my garden to receive new plants this summer, ordered from Suttons. They were due last week but delivery has been changed till mid July. No good for me, we will be off to France for the summer then. I will plant those this evening when its cooler. Yesterday I bought three large carnation plants from B&M, 3 for £12, excellent value. I have no other plans. This evening is zoom wine appreciation. A fun topic, a wine that you associate with a celebration with an accompanying story. Ours is a sparking white from Spain, drunk on our( delayed) honeymoon in Majorca. We have no idea what it was so are substituting for Cava

Have a good day all

I shall be in the shed for an hour, no skiving this morning! It's going to be a cooler day but dry according to the forecast so I may get my midday walk and sit in.

A busy little session lasting just over an hour. First I bored the strap and checked the fit on the eccentric. It's perfect. Then I measured and marked the strap for the small 5BA screw that will attach the eccentric rod. Once I had that I drilled and tapped for the rod and fitted it to the strap once I had countersunk the hole. Then I marked the strap for milling out the groove which will accept the rod. I also marked the strap to give an idea of what can be cut back to when I finally refine the shape. A nice session, it's coming together well!

Morning

Another beautiful day and another to come. We did the usual shopping then went to the garden centre to buy some plants to fill in the spaces in the back garden. I planted those and gave them a good watering. Today I think it will have to be watering with the hose pipe as the soil is like dust. I shall also top up the pond which is getting a bit low.

This morning I shall wash and change the bedding and I have a fair bit of ironing to do, then it will be a quiet sit in the garden either hemming my new dress or doing some crocheting. I think Bob will be busy at the park.

Have a good day all.

I shall be in the shed working on my eccentric which is coming along nicely considering I had to start from scratch with a piece of scrap brass. I'll take a view on my midday walk when I see what the weather looks like. I wasn't attracted by it yesterday and went back to bed for an hour instead. I spend a lot of time sleeping these days..... :biggrin2:

This morning was difficult because everything I was doing depended on good eyesight! But I crashed on anyway. I sharpened my 3/8" slot drill and cut the channel for the valve rod. I rounded both ends of the rod and when I had it in place, drilled the oil hole in the strap. I might leave the strap how it is. Too dangerous to put any shape in it and it would only be cosmetic..... Best left alone I think!

Morning

What a busy day, washing, ironing, sewing, potting on veggie plants, topping up the pond and water butts with water and then watering the garden thoroughly. We are off to Cornwall on Thursday so want to make sure things don’t die whilst we are away. Next rain due is June 10 th.

Today there are no major plans, I have some more potting on to do. Claire Adam and Erin are coming for a BBQ tea. It was going to be lunch but they were away at Lytham overnight and are not driving back till the afternoon.

Thats it. Have a good day all
