Correct in that the mill was originally known as Hare Mill but when the Belgian firm of Carel Freres built the engine they subsidised it if the name of the mill was changed to Mons.
However, that isn't the unique fact I was thinking of. Mons engine was built to power two mills and only one was built, that's why there isn't a full complement of ropes on the flywheel. The designed maximum horse power of the engine was Over 3,000, the most power ever taken out of a two cylinder cross compound engine.

Due to another post I will guess that its the flue for the Cornish boiler at the former West Marton Dairy. Extended in an attempt to get more draught?
