The Leeds Mercury February 17th 1816.
Died. A few days ago, after a few minutes illness, Mr John Dugdale of Salterforth, near Colne.

Runaway Husbands - absconded and left their Families chargeable to the Townships of Skipton & Salterforth
Samuel Windle (who has left his family chargeable to the township of Salterforth) was last heard of at Manchester, and previously seen at Bolton; is a fiddler and dancing master; stout and about 50 years of age.

A ewe sheep, one year and eight months old, belonging to Mr J Barrett, near Salterforth, yeaned a fine lamb on New Years Day.

A Licensed Victualler at Fault
Stephen Beanland, innkeeper at Salterforth, near Colne, was fined at the Skipton Magistrates Court, on Saturday, 20 shillings and costs for having company in his house on the afternoon of Sunday 8th inst. between the hours of three and four.

Samuel Windle, the runaway husband, sounds like a character from a Dickens novel doesn't he? I had to look up "yeaned", it's not a word I have heard before.

Neither had I. Webster: 'Yean' to bring forth young (of a sheep or goat) see ME 'yenen' 14th C.
