Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I never heard it referred to as such Wendy. I had an idea that Heather View was the address of a lady whose husband was a councillor..... Can't remember the surname.....
Strange coincidence that No. 99 also had an Aussie connection as my dad was Australian....
Today I shall be in the shed with my valve for an hour. I am at the stage where so much work has been put into that tiny scrap of bronze that it would be a tragedy to have a cock-up.
Later this morning I shall go to Town square for my veggies. I shall be mob handed as M&S and Kahara and Lily are going with me! I shall buy them lunch.... That will wipe me out for the rest of the day!

Morning
Slept late this morning, we all went to bed late after a good evening meal followed by playing cards. It was a beautiful day, full sun a lot of the time and reaching 27 degrees. I think today is similar but have not checked yet. Barbara and Bill arrive sometime this afternoon. I shall prepare a lasagne at lunch time so I can cook it whenever we want it later.
Have a good day all

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning Sue! That sounds like a proper holiday day. No jobs demanding your attention and nice weather. I hope you have another today.

I started by refining the fit of the driver in the slot in the valve. Then I cut the recess in the bottom face of the valve. Next I marked the valve for the level of the hole for the valve rod. I drilled that 3/16" to allow space for the 5/32" valve rod to float in the hole. Then I marked the driver, drilled it and tapped it 4BA for the valve rod. That's all the operations on the valve finished without error. Huge sigh of relief and I took the small cutter out of the mill. A good hour and a quarter....

I don't know which house on the row the Garsdens lived in Stanley, 97 and 99 were the only ones that came up on address search of the 21 census. Most people just called it Colne Road when they filled in the forms. A school teacher called Percy Ellis lived at 99, is wife ran the grocery shop.

Putting together a new (to me) dining table, found a bargain on eBay. I've donated the old one to a local charity to sell, it's too good to just throw away. It's here if anyone is in need of a table and four chairs, it'll support a local charity too

The name doesn't ring any bells Wendy but that was 35 years before I was there. It certainly looks as though that row was called Heather View.....

It was the first row of houses to be built at Sough so there would have been a good view up the hill.

I didn't know that Wendy!
Today I shall be in the shed with my valve rod for an hour before early Doors shopping at 07:00.
Yesterday's meeting in the Town Square for lunch didn't happen for various reasons but Susan Lily and I had a nice cup of tea at home later in the afternoon.

Morning
Today is forecast 26 and cloudy. It was far too hot yesterday, even in the shade it was 28 degrees and the coolest part of the house reached 26. I think in the garden it reached 31 degrees and it was incredibly humid . Today is forecast cloudy and 26 degrees. We are all going out this morning to the medieval time of Rochefort on Terre . We will be back for lunch as it is Barrys funeral in the U K today and I have an online link to watch. Claire was going to go to represent the family but she has a meeting that she has to go to.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
That makes it a sad day Sue. I dislike funerals these days..... I wonder why?!

I started this morning by renovating the milling cutter, backing it off and touching the cutting edge up. Then I started into making the valve rod, cutting it down to size and putting 3/4" of 4BA thread on the valve end.... You can see it fitted to the driver in the valve. That was where I had to stop and go shopping. The shopping is put away and I know exactly where I am starting tomorrow, the finishing of the valve rod.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning I shall prepare my chicken for its four hour roast and put it in the oven before going into the shed and doing an hour or thereabouts on the valve train of my latest engine. I shall deal with the chicken after I get up from second sleep and after that the day may be dominated by the World Cup Final.....
Yesterday one of my Stuart No. 9 engines set off on its journey to its new owner. Ashley, the fiancee of my grand daughter Yiota who lives in Bath and is going to be meeting up with Susan and Mick who are in Essex visiting Wilf and Zoe. So Susan is taking the engine. Another happy lad who has a permanent reminder of the Old Fart!

Morning
Another good day. We managed our visit to Rochefort on Terre before the crowds and before it became excessively warm. We were back in time for a late lunch and in plenty of time for me to watch the funeral. The sky clouded over in the afternoon and although rain was forecast, if you had blinked you would have missed it.
Today is a shopping and washing day . It will be a fairly big shop as we have 4 guests for lunch tomorrow. However today we are out for lunch ourselves at Yves Rocher restaurant , then this afternoon will be relaxed in the garden. 25 is forecast with full sun.

Have a good day Sue. Sounds like a good weather day and you are relaxing.

I started this morning by cutting the valve rod to length and threading the end that holds the clevis, 4BA for 7/32". Then I shifted to machining the clevis itself. I shaped the front end, drilled it for tapping 4BA and then tapped it and tested it. Next I moved on the drilling the clevis 5BA tapping size, opened one side up to 5BA clearance and tapped the far side 5BA ready to accept the clevis pin I shall make.... I am ready now for milling the slot in the clevis and finishing the end. That's for tomorrow....

Morning
It was another glorious day yesterday. All washing and shopping done, lovely meal out and a relaxing afternoon in 27 degrees sat in the garden or playing boule on the grass. This morning we shall all be preparing a buffet lunch. Our friends Joanne and Paul are coming and Jon and Maryse who run Patisserie Chanel on Burnley market, they are over here on holiday visiting family. Maryse was from the next big town over from here.
Its thick mist at the moment. It should lift by 11 to reveal a warm sunny afternoon. Have a good day all

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning Sue! It's a quiet morning here as I have declared a holiday from the shed after oversleeping. Funny thing is I have just been listening to 'Something Understood' on R4 and it was a nice piece about the advantages of slowing down. Exactly how I feel this morning, I shall have breakfast and then go back to bed for second sleep. I know that when I get up I shall be assaulted by football if I allow it. I shall see how I feel.....
So well done on yesterday and I hope you can have as good a day today.... I shall be having a slow day...

No shed holiday today. I shall be in the shed working on my clevis for the valve rod..... After a sleep I'll fry my sweet potato chips and have a walk and a sit if the weather forecast is right and it stays dry.

Morning
Another fabulous day. Our friends arrived at 12.30, so we were busy in the morning setting up the garden and the food for lunch. The afternoon until 7.00:pm was spent eating and chatting.
This morning I need to check the fridge to see what we have in the way of food for meals today and tomorrow.. in the afternoon we are going for a riverside walk. 30 degrees and full sun is forecast.
Have a good day all.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I had a day off yesterday but this morning I was back in the shed to finish making the valve rod clevis. I had made a mistake in that I did too much work on the clevis before cutting the slot in it which was this morning's task. This meant that I hadn't enough to get hold of to cut the slot full depth. I had to cut as much as possible and then finish it by hand with the Hacksaw. Not good with my eyesight but I did it and shaped the end of the piece. As you can see it is now ready for fitting. Not perfect but certainly good enough!
Just seen your post Sue. I'm glad you had another good day. It sounds as though today could be another. I hope so!

I shall have my hour in the shed with my non-ferocious castings.... Actually I might be making the crosshead and that is made out of bar stock, not a casting.....
It looks as though it might be damp around midday so I'll leave the question of a walk until then....

Morning
My it was hot yesterday and looks to be repeated today. This morning we are having a large breakfast and this afternoon an early tea so Bob can take Wendy, Keith and Jane to Nantes for an evening plane to Manchester. On arrival there Jane will continue to Liverpool, by train hopefully or by taxi. It will be after midnight when she gets home. So this is their last day. After breakfast we are going 5 km to the local alignments and standing stones otherwise it will be a day of packing and enjoying the sun a little longer. Its been a great 10 days. Barbara and Bill are here till Thursday.

You are running a very high class B&B Sue! Bob is doing sterling work as a taxi driver. I hope he is getting a good rate! Have another good day and relax when you can.....

This morning I shifted my attention to the crosshead. The first job was to measure and make a fag packet drawing which is different than the drawing as every engine has little variations, that's what hand-made means! Once I was satisfied with the dimensions, and that took half an hour, I got into the VM and started cutting. I finished up with a smaller piece of bronze and tomorrow it will get smaller again as I adjust the length.
