All is well but I have a few aches this morning.... not sure if it's anno domini or the flu jab. I shall take it easy just in case. I shall be in the shed for an hour with my crankshafts and have a load of washing in at the moment on a hot wash. I know everyone says this is silly with prices the way they are but a hot wash occasionally is good for your machine!
If I am in need of light entertainment later I can always fry my sweet potato chips.

I think it is a bit wet out there. Its a day for finding indoor things to do and I am not sure what that will be. All my sewing is finished ready for my lesson on Wednesday, and Kath’s skirt is successfully altered as requested. I will probably have a dive into my fabric stash to see what I can make. It could be a good day to start a jig saw, I have plenty here to do. Before the rain set in yesterday we managed to prune the raspberry canes and three shrubs. The brown bin is full, the next session will have to be after Thursday.

I do one hot wash a week, as I like to wash whites on hot and I always wash handkerchieves on hot. Everyone says I am silly using those but I like them and hate those horrible tissue things. I always carry a pack of tissues in my bag and use them when we have colds but otherwise give me a proper hanky any day

Same prospect here Sue, rain all morning and showers this afternoon. I feel a bit achy after the flu jab so I will take it easy just to be on the safe side!



Just one task this morning, to mark the crankshaft blanks with the position of the crank pin and crank webs. It took an hour because I had senior moments doing my calculations and had to retrace my steps several times.... That's why I have to check over and over again. I am satisfied now that I have the blanks marked correctly!
Just seen your post Sue and I agree absolutely. Every now and then you need a hot wash to keep standards up!

It was an interesting event with short talks by Janet Whipp, née Brown, who attended Thornton School in the 1940s, a lady called Gretta whose mother, Margaret Lancaster, was headmistress of Elslack School in the 1960s and the current head of the thriving Thornton School.

It has just struck me that she might have been one of the Colne History Society or Library ladies!

Traumatic day yesterday which is still running for today. First thing in the morning we woke to find the ceiling under the shower room had come adrift and succumb to the effects of gravity.

Fortunately the carpet didn't suffer too much with most of the debris landing paper downwards but the rubbish still filled a wheelbarrow.

Seen from below the main hole is confined to the shower area but the rest of the hallway ceiling will need re-decorating.

More tidying up and dusting today but my main problem is that I'm not in a fit state to do any of the work that I used to.

Does anyone know of a reliable plasterer / decorator that would do this sort of work.

Oh dear Ken, I reckon you may need a plumber as well to have a look at the shower tray, or is it wet room. No smoke without fire as they say and it looks like something is amiss in the drainage department. Last plasterer I used was a mate of our Jack's dad who was actually retired but did his kitchen as a favour when we reworked it.

That's a bugger Ken! And yes I know what you mean about not being capable of doing what used to be routine. Can't recommend anyone but I'm sure you'll find someone if you keep asking!
I shall be in the shed getting ready for milling the gap in my slugs, (That's the reason I like the shed Ken, It's still something I can manage!)
I'm not sure if the weather will be nice enough to persuade me to have a midday walk. I'll take a view closer to the time.... No cooking or shopping needs to be done.....

What a mess. I feel for you. I hope you can get it sorted quickly. We had similar when we were on holiday in the Lakes. A water tank burst in the loft. Our neighbour noticed water running from the roof and called our daughter. Much of the back of the bungalow was flooded to varying extents and the ceiling was badly damaged in places. It was weeks drying everything thing out before repairs. The room that was worse was a linen and coats cupboard. Everything had to be washed or dry cleaned but at least the insurance paid the laundrette and cleaning bills. My wedding dress, which I still had was a mess. Thankfully a simple style I was able to wash it. It has since been given to a Todmorden amateur dramatics group. We had one room and the hall way completely gutted, plastered, decorated, new flooring in the hall and two new bedroom carpets. It was months before it was sorted. I hope yours is faster and less ‘painful’

Yesterday was a domestic day of washing, ironing, and cooking interspersed with some French. The afternoon was dry and quite sunny so Bob had a good afternoon at the park. This morning I have zoom pilates from the new studio, this group being the first to see it
I hope it is as nice as the last studio. I have no other plans, Bobs new phone arrives and I think that is it.

Sorry, images in wrong order. This morning has been spent measuring and marking and getting to this stage, ready to cut the slot. The time has been spent searching for, and failing to find, my only 7/16" cutter, so I have settled on one that is slightly larger and gave it a good sharpening on the Clarkson T&C grinder. It has two shafts to cut. As you can see I have ended up ready to actually start cutting.....

I shall be aiming for an hour in the shed playing with my milling machine but I have a busy schedule this morning and have to get breakfast, second sleep and a soak of my feet in before 10AM when Robin my chiropodist will be calling.
(Such a luxury and I would recommend it to anyone!)

Only one pic this morning. I started by speeding the mill up for the small cutter and started cutting with the 1/2" cutter I identified yesterday. Total disaster, the cutter wasn't working at all, must be my fault in that I've made a cock-up of sharpening it. Rather then start trying to rectify that I found a 1/2" slot drill and started cutting with it. It's shorter than the other but I console myself with the fact that even if it's a bit short of the mark it's still a lot of interrupted cutting and eccentric turning which I hate. I knocked off early as I want a sleep before Robin, my chiropodist, arrives to minister to my feet! As you can see it's a very clean cut....

Morning

Not much happening here. I spent the afternoon yesterday playing with my oil paints. It took longer to clear up than to produce anything. I think in future I will stick to doing oils in my art room in France. The ´definitely not a masterpiece ´ is in the shed drying being the only place I could think of where it wouldn’t get disturbed for a few weeks.

Today I have lunch with my sewing friends and this evening zoom pilates and yoga. Sadly for Taira the new studio is not finished so she will have go back to zoom lessons. She had to vacate her old studio by the end of the month, as she had already asked for a month extension. The original moving date was September 1 st. The old studio was lovely but the parking area is due to be built on. The new studio is exactly that, new. A renovation in an old mill which is a listed building. It is one of many offices, workshops and studios being created and the parking area is massive. I just hope they get it finished soon. I am happy exercising at home but I know Taira needs the extra income from studio classes.
