I think you can add 'those that are ignorant, and those who don't really care.' to that list.

I just googled Danelaw and my head's hurting, but I'm no wiser.

Ian is right, it was never out of Yorkshire. Some of us said so continually at the time and in the end Eric Pickles (As local government minister) had to state publicly that this was the case and endorse the actions of the Post Office who gave us our own post code; BB18.
At roughly the same time there was a move to reform the identification and management of listed buildings. I knew the man at English Heritage who was in charge of that and he told me that they came to two conclusions, first that the county boundaries couldn't be altered no matter how administration was sliced and diced and second that the most logical unit for locating and identifying listed buildings was the Parish Boundary. It was kept when they digitised the list.

It's a bit like 42, but those Norsemen liked the number 3. :extrawink:

You've lost me there - I think 42 refers to the Hitch Hiker ?

Not sure how a Blackburn (Lancashire) post code affects things?

The BB postcode area, also known as the Blackburn postcode area,[2] is a group of thirteen postcode districts in north-west England, within nine post towns. These cover east Lancashire, including Blackburn, Burnley, Accrington, Barnoldswick, Clitheroe, Colne, Darwen, Nelson and Rossendale.

We had a similar tussle when we got a Hertfordshire (SG8) post code whilst being actually in Cambridgeshire. Huge campaign - to no avail. My official postal address still says Herts SG8. It all faded away after a while, and is never heard about now.

Indeed it does and the Norsemen knew nothing of this. They did create the Ridings though in Yorkshire. It is this that is still current in Statute with the original borders. If you look at my profile byline on my posts you will see that I know where I am and that is in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

See THIS BBC report....
A seven-year mission to study what has been described as the most dangerous rock in the Solar System is about to reach its dramatic conclusion. The Osiris-Rex spacecraft is bringing home the "soil" samples it grabbed from the surface of asteroid Bennu. These dusty materials will be dropped off by the Nasa probe as it sweeps past the Earth on Sunday. They'll be tucked inside a capsule to protect them from a fiery descent to the US State of Utah. Scientists expect the samples' chemistry to reveal new information about the formation of the planets 4.5 billion years ago, and possibly even to give insights into how life got started on our world.
It seemed to me that this event deserved a mention as it is not pessimistic or describing death and destruction but optimistic and interesting.

Amazing achievement - and reinforces Tizer's long held view that manned missions to space should be replaced by robots.
Talk of getting raw materials from the planets are fanciful. The retrieved sample was (I believe) about 60 grammes.

I mentioned a while ago that I couldn't get the stains off my tea mugs even using bleach. I found out why yesterday - and I can now.

Yes- that's it. Both yellow bottle with red top. Who reads labels?

Interesting to note, in the research for this post, that the price of the bleach has risen from 39p to 59p ! That's 51%.

And as Graham once remarked, an exorbitant price to pay for something that was a by-product from another common chemical reaction (was it manufacturing sulphuric acid?) and chemical companies used to pay others for disposing of it as waste.
As soon as high inflation is flagged up in official figures smart companies apply it to their retail prices whether it's justified or not.
Re. the success of toilet cleaner with your tea stains. You must have hard water David, the difference is that the toilet gel has a lime scale remover.

I seem to have conveyed the exact opposite of what I intended. Sorry about that. I'll try again. . . . .

The toilet cleaner was used in error in place of the bleach.
I did not notice this, and thought that 'bleach' was having no effect..
It did not remove the tea stains
They both come in a yellow bottle with a red cap
I have now resumed using bleach
The tea mugs are now very clean.
I am now happy.

I have used bleach to kill the moss on the drive but most supermarket bleaches are below 2% which is useless for the task. The thick bleaches are the same strength as the thin bleaches but with a thickening agent but equally useless.

Nowhere near as strong as Lanry used to be round here. Made by two brothers, Allan and Harry Towers, hence the name.

That's a great website. Thanks  Bolton Work Town

You can add Lanry to the ever increasing list of "things you had forgotten that you had forgotten. They mention a similar product Melry which 'rings a bell' and I think should also go on the list.

I looked at my latest bottle of bleach and find it is 4.6% Sodium Hypochlorite.

I used to do that for red wine - now it's bottles of bleach that are scrutinised. :biggrin2:

I had just decided to cancel Private Eye as it no longer seemed to have any teeth, and even the cartoons hardly raised a smile.

I then discovered (by means of inertia) I had renewed it for yet another year.

Anyway - it arrived today - now wrapped in paper not plastic, (planet saved), and found it to have improved greatly.

Even smiled at a few of the jokes.
