That was a good one Kev. Your `think smaller' clue triggered my brain onto a different track and I was trying to envisage looking inside things. Then, yes, those holes were intriguing and combined with what looked like rough wood suddenly it all fell into place. A real brain teaser, thanks!

The first thing that came to my mind was erecting shuttering for concrete on the London Barrage.....

Nothing to do with a barrage but it probably has concrete above it among other stuff.

If it is that those four blokes will almost certainly not be with us any more.

Not the sarcophagus at Chernobyl. Corrugated steel yes, but culvert no. It's not just part of a big structure but something very special and its in England.

It's got to be the form work for a tunnel then and the only one I can think of is the one near Stonehenge.

The main project took 10 years starting in the 1960s but what you see in the photo is the final stage, so well done on the era, Wendy!
Not the Channel tunnel. Neither road nor rail go under it but there's a motorway very close to it.
Not Stonehenge but Stanley has given the rest of you a good clue!

Not a subway to the farm on the m62, Tom, but you're getting closer. The main `mystery object' is underneath a major motorway and there is a tunnel providing access. It's further south, too.

Not a canal under spaghetti junction - no canals or rivers or railways involved.
Nothing to do with wildlife.
There is a tunnel but that's only for access to the main attraction.
The work in the photo went on in the 1960s but the main attraction dates to a couple of thousand years earlier - that gives a you a good clue!

Sorry Gloria, but no, Dover Castle is very modern compared with this. And its nothing to do with fending off enemies before you all start listing castles! :laugh5:
