I had chicken and veggies X three and did veggie shopping ready for today's cook-in, I shall roast my chicken and cook the first batch of veggies for the New Year!

I had the last of last week's chicken and veggies X three as I roasted my chicken and cooked four pans of veggies for this week.

I cleaned and recharged my deep fat fryer with rapeseed oil yesterday and fried my sweet potatoes.

On New Year's Day I cooked a huge chicken and chorizo pasta bake, eldest offspring and family came round to eat it. Today we had one of the remaining pots that went in the freezer for tea, it was accompanied by a sourdough pizza and a nice drop of SavBlanc

Chicken seems to be one of the healthiest choices in meats. I only eat red meat occasionally for a treat.
Yesterday I had chicken and veggies X three with increased salt and a side of prunes.....

Had a request to make a bread pudding.

800g bloomer loaf blitzed in the food processor

2 litre of semi skimmed milk, 500g of sultanas, 75g of unsalted butter, 2 teaspoons of mixed spice and 2 tablespoons of granulated Stevia. Warmed to melt the butter, off the heat and stir in the breadcrumbs. All into a foil lined, greased oven dish. Cover with more foil and 160 fan oven for 45 minutes, off with the foil and another 35 to 40 minutes.

I made a corned beef hash last week and have had it as is when first made and then as a couple of pies since.

My young lad mentioned - and I think he may be right - that he hadn't seen a real old fashioned pork chop with the bone and rind on for ages. It seems to be all loin chops or steaks now, and cut fairly thin as well. Is it perhaps becaused the ribs are now quite marketable as a separate item?

That doesn't really surprise me - I do all my meat shopping at Tesco or Aldi. I think it may be a 'supermarket thing' .

We have a craft butcher, but cost is the over riding factor, and he's very dear.

Worth a look - not many now have an on site abbatoir. Leech Butchers

Actually I use their car park when I get my hair cut, and I'm due one, so I'll do some research - sod the cost.

PS - Early closing - so purchase postponed. Good haircut though(I'll spare you the photo) and unusually - no queue.

I did see this amusing and very seasonal effort from the local yarn fairies though. . .

I reached the end of the veggies but by extending what I had with a can of beans (old stock, 25P! Those were the days.) i made 4 servings, three for breakfast dinner and tea and one for breakfast today.
I did veggie shopping yesterday and will cook them today.
David I am always struck by how cheap my butcher is and I think you could describe Stuart as 'craft'. A chicken, 2lbs of chicken wings and half a dozen eggs comes to about £16 a week.

Not knocking Stuart Brown but £16 is not particularly cheap.
Aldi prices for similar:
2lb of chicken wings £2.19
A 3lb chicken £3.89
6 large free Range eggs £1.79
just under half the cost, I'm all for supporting local business but a young family, on a low budget, would struggle to use one on a regular basis.

Had spag bol at Chez Kev today, washed it down with a very nice Cotes du Rhone, it was the Aldi special offer a few weeks ago. Originally £9, reduced to £3

I don't drink wine now after the Covid, but when I did, the best bottle I ever had was a Cote de Rhone. Next door, on a summer evening, outdoors. He got it from his regular delivery from The Wine Society who are a bit pricey - but so is everything that's good.

PS - Tip - The chicken legs from Aldi are better than the wings - a lot more meat, and less skin and bone - and same price by weight.

I agree David....
Yesterday was a full on cooking day, chicken and veggies. I had the very last serving of last week's batch for breakfast, didn't really have any dinner beyond an occasional nibble of the veggies I was cooking and new batch chicken and veggies for tea.
