The forecast isn't much better for tomorrow. I had a dinner invite in Harrogate but politely declined, it was horrible just going to Burnley.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
It's not improving, the wind has swung round from east to west so the rain is now lashing against the living room windows yet again. High winds and rain forecast through the night and all of tomorrow. Although I was well annoyed at the time I'm now pleased Col went out on Christmas day and bolted down the loose panel on the workshop roof that had been flapping and threatening to fly off,
Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Quite windy down here in the South too. Here's Heathrow a few minutes ago. Flight from Los Angeles.
This is one of those days when you get the household insurance out and discover that fences are not in fact covered for being blown down by the wind.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
When you wrote that Wendy I was just making the decision to go to bed two hours early! (I slept like a log..... )
Good decision Kev, apart from it being a long way to go for a meal, it could have been a dodgy journey back over Blubberhouses....
Yesterday was wet and windy, it was wet and windy when I went to bed at 18:00 and it's wet and windy this morning as I write this. The glass fell all day yesterday to 985mb, it has started rising now and this morning is almost on 988mb. The official forecast is 'light rain', my forecast is wet and windy all day! The SW wind is constant and gusts to 45mph, not letting up all day. We can expect a high of 8C and a low of 5C tonight with a wind chill of -5C when the wind is at its strongest. The outlook is for similar weather for three days , perhaps getting cooler and then colder weather after that.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was wet and windy. at 20:00 it was still wet and windy, first thing this morning it was wet and windy and it hasn't changed. Are you getting the picture? The glass is up slightly on 992mb and the forecast is guess what.....? Wet and windy. The Westerly wind is brisk and gusts to near;ly 50mph at the moment, it will ease slightly during the day. It gives us a high of 6C and a low of 2C tonight, the wind chill at present is -6C but that will ease to -5C. Another day of heavy rain tomorrow and then the weather calms a bit but gets colder as it brightens up.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was wet and windy again and at 20:00 guess what, it was wet and windy. First thing this morning we had a light breeze, it wasn't raining and we had a waning moon in a sky that was almost clear, just a light veil of thin cloud. It hasn't changed since. The Glass is up on 1002mb and rising slowly. The forecast is for heavy rain to come in with the dawn and to stay with us all day today and into tomorrow. The southerly winds are light to moderate and might gust to 30mph at midday. We will have a high of 8C and a low of 4C tonight with a -4C wind chill at almost any time during the day. The outlook is for slightly drier and cooler weather into the New Year, we could have less wind as well.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Guess what.... yesterday was mainly wet and windy. It was wet and windy at 20:00 when I went to bed and it was still wet and windy first thing this morning but since then it is only windy, it has stopped raining. The glass fell all day yesterday and during the night, this morning it is down on 978mb and still falling. The forecast is for b right overcast and even some sun until late morning when it will start raining again. The mainly SW wind is moderate all day and gives us a high of 6C and a l,ow of 4C tonight with a -4C wind chill for most of the day. The outlook into 2024 is for similar weather and temperatures. No surprises....

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Morning Cathy! We'd give a lot for just a fraction of that at the moment, we seem to have had endless wind and cold rain!
I have a question about our weather. I have just been outside and the sky is clear. We have a fat crescent moon and it looks bigger than usual, no, it's not low on the horizon it's overhead. My question is, does it look bigger because it's closer to us?
Later at 05:30. Listening to the shipping forecast I get confirmation of my low barometer reading as it checks with the experience at Ronaldsway. Still falling as well.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was very gloomy. The forecast was correct, the rain came back in at 13:00. At 20;00 it was wet but not raining, there were some breaks in the cloud. This morning the situation is normal again, we have wind and rain. The glass started rising slowly at about 18:00 and this morning it is up on 985mb and rising. The forecast is for sunny intervals to develop this morning and the rain holds off until this evening. The mainly WSW wind is variable, moderate and gusting to 35mph this morning but easing later. It gives us a high of 6C and a low of 4C tonight with a wind chill that can be -4C at times. The outlook is for similar weather to today and cooling slowly all week.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday the rain came back in the late afternoon and at 20:00 it was raining. First thing this morning it was windy and dry with broken cloud but evidence of rain during the night. It has started raining since but the forecast is for it to be windy, cloudy and dry until late morning when heavy rain will return and be with us for the rest of the day. The glass has fallen to 978mb but is tending to rise. The constant SW winds will start brisk gusting to over 35mph but will gradually decrease for the rest of the day. We will have a high of 9C and a low tonight of 6C with at most a wind chill of -3C this morning. The outlook for the week is for it to be drier and cooler.
Later at 05:30. Listening to the Shipping Bulletin it is clear that we are very lucky because we are sitting directly under the deep depression that is governing our weather at the moment. The deeper the depression the stronger the winds associated with it but these get stronger as you move out from the centre of the depression. This means that many sea areas are having Force 10 and even some Force 11 violent storms. So.... be grateful we aren't out on the edge!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yet another day of wind and rain. At 20:00 it was still raining. First thing this morning we had a light breeze and it was wet from a recent shower but not raining.A good moon only partially obscured by a very thin cloud cover. Since then the cloud has cleared despite the Met Office saying it's cloudy and raining. The glass is steady on 978mb and the forecast is for a dry, cloudy day with a chance of a shower in the late morning. The mainly SW winds are light and give a high of 7C and a low of 5C tonight with a wind chill of -2C. The outlook for the rest of the week remains cooler and drier with no nasty surprises.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday mostly kept to the forecast, it was dry until midday and then we had intermittent showers for the rest of the day, at 20:00 when I want to bed it was raining. First thing this morning the cloud was broken, we had a good crescent moon but we still had light rain. It is still the same. The glass rose slowly all day yesterday and this morning is on 992mb. The forecast is for steady rain until mid-afternoon when it will cease and the cloud might break enough for a few sunny spells! The constant SW wind is moderate all day becoming light in the late afternoon and evening. We will have a high of 6C and a low of 1C tonight. The wind chill starts this morning on -4C but gradually decreases during the day to -2C. The outlook is for cloudy but dry and cooler weather.

Yesterday afternoon the rain ceased after 15:00 and at 20:00 we had a light breeze and a clear sky, it was dry. This morning first thing it was the same and hasn't changed since. The glass is tending to rise and is on 995mb. The forecast is for a dry cloudy day with a chance of light rain at dusk. The light west wind is constant and tends to the north giving us a high of 6C and a low of 0C tonight with a maximum wind chill of -2C this afternoon. The outlook is for this cool;er drier trend to continue. Expect some frosts.

Yesterday afternoon stayed dry and at 20:00 it was calm and dry but cooler. This morning it was still the same, the sky was clearing and since then it hasn't changed. The glass has continued to rise and this morning is on 1009mb and still tending to rise. The forecast is for a clear bright day with lots of sun. The steady NW wind is light and gives us a high of 4C and a low tonight of -1C with a -2C wind chill for much of the day. The outlook is for this cooler, drier weather to continue and for pressure to remain high for the present.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
25C would be tropical for us Cathy, It's 0c at the moment and won't get much warmer than that all day..... But we are used to it and in fact this dry cold is preferable to the wind and rain we have had for weeks.....
Yesterday afternoon was dry clear and cold, it was still like that at 20:00 when I went to bed and this morning it started the same and hasn't changed since. The glass has risen further and this morning is on 1024mb and still rising. The forecast is for a bright, dry overcast day. Possibly some mist this evening. The constant NW wind is very light and gives us a high of 4C and a low tonight of 0C with a negligible wind chill. At the moment it's 0C. The outlook is colder and brighter for a couple of days and then warming slightly and giving us heavy overcast but staying dry throughout.
